Topic: Would you move half way across the country for a job. | |
---|---|
Here is the thing. I am from Louisiana and I just got back from an interview in New York. It went really well and I am expecting a job offer. I am a recent grad in engineering and would be working on military stuff. You know that kind that requires security clearance.
If you were in my shoes, would you do it? |

If you can live in Houston, New York should not be a problem for you. Good luck.

Depends where you currently live. Cost of living on the East Coast is very expensive. I would imagine that as engineer that you would get paid handsomely. However, the cost of rent, commuting, etc. might net you less than where you live now. Are you ME, CE or EE?

question for OP, what are your alternatives? is this something you want? what would you be giving up? what would you be gaining? weigh pros/cons all by yourself

Being young and single in a heart beat!!

Some things to consider: 1) The cost of living in NY. 2) Whether you're comfortable moving somewhere where you don't know anyone. 3) Will they pay moving expenses. 4) Do you have to sign a contract specifying how long you'll stay?

Its not NYC but in a place called Owego. Its kind of near the PA boarder about 30 miles south of Ithaca. Cost of living is lower than Houston. I am an EE. To answer everyone else, I would only be leaving behind my friends and family. A little scary because I don't know anyone there, but my ultimate goal is working for a defense contractor so I would be doing that right out of college. Let me add this part. Yes they will pay for moving. |

i think you got to weigh the plus and minuses, it might seem good for the $ but what about your lifestyle. How will it be affected?
