Sorry peeps its random rant time...Well grrrr. Why do everybody have to start dating right away...especially online...because you don't have that chance to just mingle and get to know a person in a "normal" way. But apparently if you say you like someone than it must mean you want to date that person right away. I'm sorry but lol while I"m on here I'm still old fashion. I like to get to know a person, become friends before thinking about something more...well at least I think I do. I know I'm not the only one online who is still old fashion...even if we are online....okay I swear I'm done now...

Nothing wrong with that thinking at all, it only makes sense really. I mean you really ought to be friends first, before deciding whether you want to take the relationship to that next level or not. Otherwise it's like skipping dinner to get to dessert you know? It's backwards, and you end up getting hurt that way, expecting more then one ought to be when first meeting someone.

It's especially wise I think online to take things slow, because you don't even know the person in real life yet. For all you know, you could be getting your hopes up, only to be let down when you do finally meet.

I will admit, I am guilty of getting overly involved sometimes though, and getting in over my head, it can be quite easy to do at times really. But it doesn't change what you said, what you say is very true, and if more people would heed it, there would be less heartbreak I think.

it's a mixed blessing/curse ... on one hand if you e-mail/chat w/someone often you can kind of feel them out...then later start talking (for hours ) on the phone you get to know alot more about them and esp for the shyer person, they may share/open up alot more than in person...or if they're Really shy you or live outside your little microcosm you would most likely never have met them at all...then if you meet and click in person...well that's what most of us are here for...on the other side they may be sociopaths and/or pathalogical liars...anyway, the best of luck to you and i hope your prince charming sweeps you off your feet and you live happily ever after

lol why thank you, not exactly looking for prince charming but lol it would be nice to have someone who respected me and such. And yes I know it can be a mix blessing and a curse. I don't mind meeting the person, even within a short amount of time as long as don't expect anything more than getting to know eachother in person. I talked with someone every night for hours for four months straight, we only missed a couple of nights because one or the other or lol both of us were sick or busy. However, while we talked about meeting before he'd been avoiding it. So lol I've gotten both ends...wants to meet and other stuff right away and we just keep talking and talking and it seems like we're never going to meet. The guy that I talked to and I are still friends, but we don't talk every night anymore.

first part: i want to get to just hang out and get to know people. I don't want to rush into dating.

I think alot of people have differnt defintions of old fashion. I personaly want to hang out and get to know someone as well. Thats generally what a date is. If there nearby, and we hit it off, sure i might ask them if they want to hang out and go do something. I've tried the meet at a bar, go to dinner thing. It doesn't work for me. To much stress, and pressure. Usually people that want to just talk online for months even though they live close by, have something to hide, are really insecure or are playing games. There is something to be said for going with the flow though.
