Topic: CHASE AWAY THE "WHAT IF'S" | |
---|---|
"What-if?" So many negative thoughts start with these two words; "What if I'm late for work?" "What if I don't lose weight?" "What if I don't go to my friends for dinner because I'm too tired?" "What if... what if... what...if."
These anxious thoughts lead to another and another - only to become a negative spiral of worry? Before you know it - your heart races, it's tough to breathe, and there's a knot in your stomach the size of a pot roast. Catch yourself next time you fall in to the "what-if" trap, stop it in its tracks. Turn your thinking into new beliefs. It takes time and consistent practice, but the freedom you feel is worth the effort. |

I was given a magnet by my boss when I started a new postition many years ago. I was very anxious about how I would be perceived because I was much younger than many of those whom I would be surpervising.
It said... Arise Go forth and Fake it! Carry with you a personal confidence, and a willingness to do your very best in all things. This can carry you far! |

I was told by my therapist that if you are going to play the what if game then you better be prepared to follow through with it.
In other words, when I say "what if this happens" she says, "Yeah, what if that happens, then what do you do?" It has made me understand that I can't always worry about the future and that I need to focus on the here and now. |

I try to recall what I heard a while back.... "Don't sweat the small stuff. And almost everything is small stuff." And, I try to remember to just take a deep breath and say to myself, "Relax". It helps.
