From another thread a lot of women said "I don't make first contact." Maybe I'm missing something or I am not old fashioned but what is wrong with a women contacting a guy on here?????? just don't wanna

When I first joined the site I sent out a bunch of emails to anyone whose profile made me laugh or intrigued me or I thought was especially well-written ... they weren't necessarily people I was hoping to form a relationship with, but I appreciate when people put a lot of thought and effort into describing themselves and wanted to pass on a kind word, etc. A male friend looked at me like I was out of my mind and asked 'WHY ARE YOU TRYING SO HARD?' *shrug* Since I've listed I'm looking to make friends, I didn't think it was a big deal - but I got the distinct impression from his reaction that men thought women who made the first 'effort' were desperate or pushy -- neither of which I am, nor wanted to be perceived as being. Kinda made me shy off from putting myself out there, even as a friend. 
You just described me..now I just say to heck with it...I am just a nice person and if I like the profile then I will say so...at least I dont email asking them what they are wearing

I never do make the first move..guess I was taught growing up that it would make me look easy..and I wasn't, and that thought was ingrained deep..so I just sit quietly and read the forums and answer whoever does write. The old fashioned lady..lol

Because men made the first everything, light bulb, presidency, beer, contact Had to bring it up, huh? And these firsts as well: Mistake Idiotic statement wrong turn stupid tv show bomb gun arrow knife and the list of our firsts starts.. From a guy that knows we screw up,and isn't afraid to admit it. Here's to you, Ladies, for pointing out our flaws. If it weren't for you, we'd be perfect.. 
Oh, in ref to the actual subject. Of my 6 friends here,5 are women, and 3 made first contact.. |

Some just aren't comfortable with it, still a bit old fashioned, but I think if you're going to go the effort to put yourself on a dating site ya might as well go the extra and make some contact. Others, well to be honest, they feel they are above it and wait for the contact to be made. Still others are just shy and/or not used to the internet dating thing yet enough to make the first move. There's a myriad of reasons, but those are the most common reasons I've encountered. |

First some of them complain about all the emails they get that they don't like, but if some of them that are that way, would stop waiting for that right one and put a little effert in it. Things might change for them. Gee what a concept
