Topic: I'm such a bad | |

mom. I have spent the last two and a half hours crying my heart out. At first I was almost uncontrolable. My poor Chuy...my alpha male chihuahua got into a brawl with two other ones and his eye was pulled out of its socket. I don't know if I caused it when I pulled his tail to get him clear of this fight. They get vicious when they fight. So, I was trying to help him. Mom says I didn't do it. There was blood everywhere! Oh my gawd...oh my gawd....oh my gawd. There it is just sticking out on his little face, all bloody and I just feel so bad. I love him with all my heart.
It was too late for the vet I use, well, I was told the vet on duty wouldn't know what to do??? What the hell?? Anyway...My son called me and told me it had to be put back in within a hour to save it. I kep pouring water on it to keep it moist. But it hurt him and he would try and get away. I had to keep him still. I gave him a 25 mg of doggy valium. It started to work and I have taken him to my sister Nancy (she's a vet tech) and she gave him a pain pill or shot and is keeping him at her house for the night til the vet opens in the morning. His eye is sticking out of his head.... Ohhhhhh my gaaaaawd..... I called her awhile ago and she said he is calm right now and she has him in a carrier on a blanket and she said he rubbed his eye and it hurt him. But that he is resting right now. It is killing me that he isn't already being seen by the vet. His vet isn't in tomorrow, but another one will do the surgery. They can't save his eye now. She told me they have put eyes back many times, but they rarely work right and usually have to go ahead and remove them anyway. She said they will most likely keep him til Sunday to make sure there will be no hemmorage. I feel so guilty and broken up inside. I love my Chuy. Kat |

Thank you hon. I will post again when I know something. I am worried about his life right now. She assures me he will be fine. But how do they know without xrays?
I hope this doesn't ruin his spirit. He's a "bull dog", very brave, and so pretty. Such a loving little fella. Kat |

That broke my heart. I hope the little doggy will be alright.

Kat.....
I am so sorry to hear about your little guy, I hope he will be alright. You are not a bad mommy to him, things like this happen to dogs with prominent eyes, like chihuahuas and pugs. Please stop blaming yourself. You both are in my prayers |

I am not sure what you meant by that. I tried to get him in and they wanted almost three weeks wages from me up front. He will be seen by a vet first thing in the morning. A tech is watching him right now. The vet there right now doesn't know anything about eyes...I was told. I am like what??? He is my baby. I have had him almost 5 years. I rescued him. He was anemic and had tick fever or flea sickness, I can't remember which. He passed out a lot and all was all boney and malnourished. He sees a vet on a regular basis. It's just that I am not rich. I cannot take him to a animal hospital. He would have been seen by a vet tonight if his vet had been in. I am doing everything I can. Kat |

here i'll save you some time...
if your vet is more than an hour away, you're going to have to replace the eye into the socket yourself. In case you ever have to do this, here are the basics: grip the skin of the upper and lower eyelids and pull forward. Lube the eyeball with petroleum jelly -- be generous. As you pull the eyelids forward, the eye may just slide back into place. If it doesn't snap right back into place, you'll need an extra pair of CLEAN hands to gently push the eyeball in. When an eyeball pops out of place, the muscles immediately start swelling. If you can't get the eye back in, the swelling may be to blame. In any case, you should get your pet to the vet as soon as possible, whether or not you're able to return the eyeball to the socket. |

It's been over an hour. It happened about 7:30 pm. It was all bloody and I do not know if there is anymore damage. He is going to lose it. I was already told that. They told me it usually doesn't do right after such a thing happens. It did'nt just pop out...it was taken out by another dog making it more intrusive. I am so sad and broken up. My son told me I would have to try and have someone help me with vaseline to put it back, but I it had already swollen. I couldn't even try. I was bawling my eyes out and trying to keep him calm at the same time. Kat He was actually better than I was. |

it's worth a try....may not work but you never know until you try. Thank you Mark...you are a doll. He is not here with me. He's at a house right next door to the vets. She will take good care of him for me. I am sure that the vet that sees him tomorrow will be good to him. I wish it was his own vet though. He is soooo good, so kind and thoughtful. Chuys vet is 40 miles awy from me. They are going to call me in the morning and give me the heads up on his condition and what is going to happen. I am leaving this thread for awhile now. My heart is hurting. It's hurting so bad. Thank you all. I had to talk about it for a minute. I must leave it alone for a few. It hurts tooo bad. Kat |

Chuy sounds as if he has one heck of a fighting spirit going through all that he has. I have a pomerainian who I love to death, he has much personality , so I can understand your anguish. They may not be able to save the eye but I'm sure you can save Chuy's spirit by continuing to love him and cherish him this will just make him more special than he already is. My prayers and best wishes to you and your loved ones |

Oh wow....my Chuys vet Dr. Link, came in this morning and said he would take care of Chuy himself. I am so relieved. He was supposed to be off today. He is his regular vet. I just love him. He is the most compassionate vet I have ever met. He truly loves dogs and takes very good care of them, as well as their family.
Chuy is in surgery right now. He did well through the night. He ate some bacon this morning without hesitation. She said he was calm. Dr. Link said the optic nerve was severed and he said that not even God could save it. That bloody mass I thought was clots was part of it. Bless his little heart. He is going to have to relearn to walk without hitting things and getting too close. I am so thankful I have a sister in the veterinarian field. She also raises and sells pups. She says he may come home today. I have to work tonight and am worried if he will be okay here without me watching over him. He is such a spoiled little dog, awesome and most loving. Not to mention sooo smart. My youngest son called me late last night checking up on me. He is so sweet. Chuy was meant to be his at first. He was a gift for when he graduated from boot camp. Well, that didn't work out too well. He tried biting everyone who came near him. Remember he was very sick when I got him. So, he was like "oh no you don't, I am staying with her"lol. He even hides in the floorboard when I take him anywhere with me and I am out of the car. So...anyway...that's what happening right now. I wonder if he will wear a patch? Naw...he's not cool like that. Kat |
