Okay, for starters, you're not 'butt ugly' *rolls eyes* and confidence is way sexier than self-doubt, so keep that in mind for future posts, k? I had a look at your profile and it reads well - you come across friendly, genuine, engaging, so give it some time. I've noticed you posting on the forums and as you've probably heard already, that's one of the prime ways to get yourself 'noticed' and help develop rapport with other members.

There are peaks and valleys in this whole online thing (as I'm discovering) ... at times it's super fun and I'm chatting with new people all the time -- and then ... *crickets chirping* nada. You can't take it personally -- just force yourself to be proactive. Read a ton of profiles, even ones that you're not initially 'attracted to' (you might be pleasantly surprised - so keep an open mind). Send out a ton of emails to people who's profiles intrigue you, make you smile, etc. Everyone likes to get positive feedback, and while it may not lead to romance, you may develop some great friendships and that networking is never a waste of time.
