My dad's family was one of the first families to settle Detroit back when it was still a trading post. My mom's family traces it's roots back to King Richard the Lionheart (think Robin Hood).

My last name is Walker and as a gift to my father I purchased "The encyclopedia of Walker" It was 2 huge volumes and had a list of every person in the world with the last name Walker that has been publicly listed. It also had a brief history of where the name came from. As it turns out way back in the 16th century people didn't have last names. Last names evolved from either a persons occupation or their location etc. Example a blacksmith would get a name like John Smith or if he lived over the hill it would be John Overhill. Now I'm thinking I am of course a descendant of some noble family or at the minimum Royalty. So as it turns out way back in those days people were hired to wash other peoples cloths. To dry them they would lay them on rocks and walk on them. They were called Walkers! We were a bunch of damn dry cleaners!
