i was homeless for 20 months during the savings and loan fall-out in 87-89 it was tough, first and last and security 1500.00 it took me that long to save up, while living in the woods. everybody laughed and thought it was funny, i just kept my nose to the grindstone and ended up with the best accounts in the city of orlando for what i do in a few years. you can get out of this predicament, just keep going and don't quit. my thoughts are with you.

Why wouldn't the smell of urine and stale alcohol get me off Not everyone who is homeless reeks of alcohol and urine - some people have no other choice - they have no place to go and /or no financial means to acquire housing.................. |

I haven't read this whole thread, but I have known quite a few people who have chosen to live in a vehicle by choice. As a matter of fact I have done it myself for 9 months in Southern Cali. I was a Xerox Technician at the TV Studios and was very busy, I was paying 750.00 a month and I got home at 2am and left at 7am, I slept there. I said screw this, got a storage unit, a membership to a health club and I had a brand new car that was very comfortable to sleep in, I blew off the home and had sooooo much money, but I was homeless, so what.
Dude, do what you need to do, get out of debt, it is totally honorable in my reality! |

I've been homeless a few times. Twice, I was renting a ROOM and the owners decided to SELL their house. I was living with the owners at the time, and even THEY had to get out when the buyer came to move in...and they were moving out of town.
Well, both times I was WORKING, so it's not like I didn't have a steady job...I just didn't have three months of rent saved up to go somewhere else! One of those times, I ended up living at my job for a few months. Why not? I had the key to lock the place up at night. Pay for a hotel for my day off, get a good night's sleep, shower. I did what I could...but I'm still only a paycheck away from being homeless again. If I failed to pay my rent, they'd file eviction proceedings so fast! And if they can come in while you're out and change your locks, there's not a heckuva lot you can do. Had that happen too. |

to those who have compassion for the homeless and the ones who have been, and are not now, thankyou!!!, for it's a life experience that lends compassion after you get out, for your fellow man, and those of us who have been, can help, and understand those who are having a rough go, and we will be behind you no matter what. even if we are still homeless, we are still strong..........the thing i missed most was a refrigerator. i could have saved so much more money faster, but you have to eat day for day....$$$$$!!!!

I have known so many totally cool homeless people, this thread is really bugging me. I have a really good friend that is a computer programmer and webmaster and homeless. Another has a broadcasting system in his car...homeless. My oldest friend on the planet, has a Volkswagon Shop, and chooses to sleep in a van in the yard...homeless, so what! So I sleep in a house, big deal, who cares?
