![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 1775: Founding of the Marine Corps A legacy is bornDuring the American Revolution, many important political discussions took place in the inns and taverns of Philadelphia, including the founding of the Marine Corps. A committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore. The resolution was approved on November 10, 1775, officially forming the Continental Marines. As the first order of business, Samuel Nicholas became Commandant of the newly formed Marines. Tun Tavern’s owner and popular patriot, Robert Mullan, became his first captain and recruiter. They began gathering support and were ready for action by early 1776. Each year, the Marine Corps marks November 10th with a celebration of the brave spirit which compelled these men and thousands since to defend our country as United States Marines. ADD IT SHARE IT |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ll4Ej-myoI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8poZshcDj8g by Terry Kelly - "A Pittance Of Time" * * * They fought and some died for their homeland. They fought and some died, now it's our land. Look at his little child; there's no fear in her eyes. Could he not show respect for other dads who have died? Take two minutes, would you mind? It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls who went over. In peace may they rest, may we never forget why they died. It's a pittance of time. God forgive me for wanting to strike him. Give me strength so as not to be like him. My heart pounds in my breast, fingers pressed to my lips, My throat wants to bawl out, my tongue barely resists. But two minutes I will bide. It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls who went over. In peace may they rest. May we never forget why they died. It's a pittance of time. Read the letters and poems of the heroes at home. They have casualties, battles, and fears of their own. There's a price to be paid if you go, if you stay. Freedom's fought for and won in numerous ways. Take two minutes, would you mind? It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls all over. May we never forget, our young become vets. At the end of the line, It's a pittance of time. It takes courage to fight in your own war. It takes courage to fight someone else's war. Our peacekeepers tell of their own living hell. They bring hope to foreign lands that hate mongers can't kill. Take two minutes, would you mind? It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls who go over. In peacetime our best still don battle dress And lay their lives on the line. It's a pittance of time In peace may they rest, Lest we forget |

![]() Invictus Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. written by William Ernest Henley |

A Veteran's Spouse
By Jeanne M. Gallagher A Veteran's spouse is a gem so rare, A patriot true, none can compare. She keeps the fires burning at home While her brave soldier the world does roam. The pride she shows, the fear she keeps, And allows only darkness to see tears she weeps. Who can count the many careers She has given up throughout the years To follow her soldier from station to station So he could serve this free and great nation? She receives no ribbons, no medals gold, For she has pledged to have and to hold Her husband, her soldier, her hero strong, As he stands ready to right the wrong. So, let us honor her as a patriot true For she also serves the Red, White, and Blue. |

The Lay of My Land
By Rainy Ostrom You can talk about the countries all across the sea, But you'll never find one half so grand as the one that belongs to me. We have mountain peaks and canyons deep and geysers that steam and spew. We have glorious gobs of wildflowers of bright and tender hue. Tiny, trickling, gurgling, brooks, clear lakes, calm as you please. Waterfalls that thunder and roar and wild and raging seas. Crisp red and orange of autumn trees tundra with ice and frost. Hawaiian shores with tropical breeze, warm swamps with hanging moss. I've seen high deserts and dry deserts with sagebrush, and sun. I've seen mesas and cliffs and jutting rocks all across this land. Petrified forests and rain forests and forests of aspen and birch. Fields of grain and prairies of grass, beauty wherever you search. Go on and talk about your countries all across the sea, But you'll never find one half so grand as the one that belongs to me. thanks for keeping us free ,God Bless The Troops!! ![]() |

Morning Vanessa.Feeling kinda lonely this morning and it got me thinking about the troops so instead of feeling sorry for myself(being in relatively way better conditions then they are}
I decided to send some tributes out to our soldiers.My sisters husband is a Submariner in the Navy and though stateside now ,has served proudly for 18 yrs in the NAVY.My Dad is a Vietnam vet and I know what my Mom went thru when he went to war and what my sister has gone thru when my brother-in-law goes to sea for 6 months.My ex boyfriend and still good friend is a Vietnam vet who served two tours(marines and army) and won a silver star for valor.He was a medic.He suffers from PTSD but is a wonderful soul.So my heart goes out to all who have loved ones and to all those who are serving across the globe.Also to the little ones who miss their parents while their away. ![]() |
