this is so sweet...
from an 8th grader <<< Kyle >>> Carry On To those on the front lines, we salute you, As you march onward to war, onward to unknown territory. Marching to battle where you may not return. So carry on, weary soldier, carry on. As you fight to protect our American homestead, Fighting to protect our freedom, our families, Fighting to protect our way of life, our country that we call home. So carry on, weary soldier, carry on. While you are away don't forget. Don't forget your family, your friends. Don't forget the symbol of freedom that is the U.S.A. Don't forget why you march to war or why you fight. Don't forget where your heart lies And don't forget to carry on, weary soldier, carry on. Because we will not forget you. We will not forget your work or dedication. We will not forget that you march for us, that you fight for us. We will not forget that you defend our home so we may be free. Most of all we will not forget that you carry on for us. So carry on, weary soldier, carry on. Kyle 8th Grade |

A Hero
Standing here looking at this stone, you're someone I've never known. but I can feel your spirit, your voice I can almost hear it. Eyes looking back at me are stoic, your expression is so heroic. Your life you courageously gave, for the home of the brave. America you proudly defended, and you will always be commended. America will always be proud of you, you're the proud, the brave, and the few. You sacrificed your life for those, who turned their back to oppose. Freedom will always be worth, the the reason you left this earth. Heroes don't come back from war, over America their spirits soar. Thank you soldier for being brave, sacrificing your life for mine to save. By Jamie Badour |

Answering The Call
Look around and you will see so many reasons why America remains strong and free, as it has never been about "I", but being united as "WE" the People of the USA... going forward every single day doing what must be done as a collective one to keep Old Glory flying high no matter the what, when, where, or why. It is answering the call, giving our national all, doing the very best, overcoming every test... and never settling for anything less than America's continued success. And it has been so in triumphing over every foe, providing aid to others in another land, and giving a helping hand to our very own whose lives have been thrown in sad disarray from mother nature's deadly play or by a terrible manmade way. Nor should there be any doubt what Americans are all about, as we are not ones that just shout... but come forward and stand tall, when answering the call! By David G. Bancroft |

Americans!
It is fighting against all odds, For the sake of liberty and justice for all, Forced to defend this right in 1812, Leaving no doubt about our independence gained, It is venturing west with a dream, Forsaking comfort and security in the original thirteen, Setting new trails and family roots along the way, Courage sustained by faith to make the next day, It is surviving our country’s rebellious adolescence, That saw brother against brother in a bitter civil war, Overcoming the hardships and spilt blood that it brought, And giving freedom that eventually led to equality sought, It is diversity of origin, color, belief, thought, and creed, All coming together as one in time of need, Going forth to fight for our country till the battle is won, As done in all wars, against terrorists, and whatever may come, It is going to the moon on a learning quest with danger rife, Developing drugs to cure disease and improve life, Inventing technology from the telephone to electronic mail, Having the chance to try and be... even attaining the Presidency, It is seeking peace and harmony while staying on guard, Never letting our resolve to wane, Preventing what could be worse than September 11, 2001, Reaching out to avert more poverty and war’s pain, It is defending the way of life and gifts of freedom enjoyed, Answering destiny’s call and the challenge of malcontents, Always supporting our troops wherever they are deployed, Standing proud for what our country represents, It is just being… Americans! "A Veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America for an amount up to and including LIFE. That is honor, and there are too many people in this country who no longer understand it." --Author Unknown |

Great Quotes of Abraham Lincoln
16th President (1861-1865) Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts. Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing. If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend. It is difficult to make a man miserable while he feels worthy of himself and claims kindred to the great God who made him. The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just. Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally. You may deceive all the people part of the time, and part of the people all the time, but not all the people all the time. 'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt. "A drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gal." So with men. If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend. Therein is a drop of honey which catches his heart, which, say what he will, is the highroad to his reason. America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. Die when I may, I want it said by those who knew me best that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow. |

Quotes from George Washington
1st President (1789-1797) The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves. Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation... for 'tis better to be alone than in bad company. Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation. A slender acquaintance with the world must convince every man that actions, not words, are the true criterion of the attachment of friends. Few people have the virtue to withstand the highest bidder. It is the child of avarice, the brother of iniquity, and the father of mischief. Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to all. As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality. How soon we forget history... Government is not reason. Government is not eloquence. It is force. And, like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a Free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even of his personal services to the defense of it. If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth. |

Quotes of John Adams
2nd President (1797-1801) All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation. There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty. A desire to be observed, considered, esteemed, praised, beloved, and admired by his fellows is one of the earliest as well as the keenest dispositions discovered in the heart of man. Facts are stubborn things; and what ever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they can not alter the state of facts, and evidence. Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion... in private self-defense. Fear is the foundation of most governments. The proposition that the people are the best keepers of their own liberties is not true. They are the worst conceivable, they are no keepers at all; they can neither judge, act, think, or will, as a political body. I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder, as the opening of a grand scene and design in providence, for the illumination of the ignorant and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth. Yesterday the greatest question was decided which ever was debated in America; & a greater perhaps never was, nor will be, decided among men. A resolution was passed without one dissenting colony, " that these United Colonies are, & of right ought to be, free and independent States." |

Patriotism and Pride
My flag flies everyday when it doesn't rain. It will fly forever and forever it will remain. It reminds of my freedom along with all those who died. My patriotism will never cease my spirit won't be denied. Many wars were fought and won so that I could show pride. With my love for this country in which I'll never be denied. Those brave young men and women who fight to keep us free. I consider them all heroes I hope you'll all agree. From those first men in our country back there in the revolution. Who gave their lives so freely and didn't worry about execution. To those who have just fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. I prayed you'd all return and be honored at the dock. Thanks to all those brave men and women throughout our countries reign. Who gave their life to do their duty, so our freedom could still remain. By Bernard Howe |
