Topic: dating a legally separated guy | |

I have mixed feeling about a new guy I met who said his lawyers suggested that he get a legal separation rather than a divorce so the wife can continue on his medical plan. She is needing a liver transplant. What do you think I should do?

Make him prove it in writing.
By the way, what happened to "in sickness and in health" there? Did he explain that? |

Need more info, before giving my thoughts.
Age, do they still live together, if not how long seperated, do they have kids, has wife always been a housewife. I can agree with someone doing this, but would want to see the paper & know it is filed. Then also what is your intent, it could never be other than special friends/friends w/benefits. Is that what you want, for the rest of your life?? I plan to never marry again, so it wouldn't matter to me. |

Looks like I killed this one.

Looks like I killed this one. We are just so despondent because you don't want to marry again. |

Sorry dear, but at least I am upfront about it.

Honesty is always the best. I'm with OldSage not sure if I would want to marry again. Being a widow it is hard to even think about being married again. On the other topic, get it in writing, or at the very least talk to a lawyer.

It is hard for me to say on this subject. Twenty years ago I dated a man that was separated from his wife, but not legally, so, what can I say?

Probably to late now,, but there is no such thing as being legally separated, ask a lawyer.

Have to agree with Joey on this one. Separated is just that. You're still married. Not saying you shouldn't date when you're separated, just know what you may be getting into. It took my divorce over 2 yrs to be finalized. Would have hated to wait that long to have a date.

as long as ur not thinking about getting serious it doesn't seem to be a problem. keep it casual.

I don't know about a spouse saying he is not getting a divorce due to WIFE needing his medical plan/lawyers advice. A liver transplant could take forever or not be in time. Success rate for transplants is rather iffy. Seems to me his priority should be towards his wife and family.
I think you need to move on and fish at another dock!! |
