To sit down with dictators you legitimize them. They will act nice until you leave, then they'll walk out on the balcony to their adoring people and use it for propaganda. Hamas did this with Carter recently. Carter leaves and says that Hamas agreed to so much and they made great progress. Hamas quickly comes out and says Carter is so full of it and pretty much tell him to kiss off and then go on with the death to Israel thing.
