I'm giving my boss my two-weeks today. I love the people, but I know it's the best decision for me. I'm really nervous about talking to him, though.

Write your resignation, tell them why, and don't discuss it any further.

Just tell him what's on your mind.....if he doesn't like it then too bad... You gotta look out for you. Be honest with yourself. I do have a question for you though....do you have another job to back this one up???

But if youre doing it in person, just take a deep breath and be honest.. I was always told its best to leave on good terms!!!

That my thoughts too, make sure you have another job before giving notice that you are leaving. Because if they are an at will employeer they can ask you to give as soon as you give notice.

Put it in writing so that it is clear that you were the one to leave. Just state that you are giving your notice to terminate employment as this date.

Oh, yes definitely. I was offered a position with more responsibilities and 10k more a year at another engineering firm.

I agree. Because even though it's against the law for an employer to give any information other than to verify employment to a new employer, there are ways to convey negative if you left them with a bad taste in their mouth.

At first, I thought I would. But the problem is that I was an intern first for about a year. I've been a hired employee for the last six months (no longer with intern status) but my responsibilities haven't increased at all. So the only way I would stay is if they gave me more of a challenge.

I definitely am stuck with the grunt work right now, and I think it's difficult for them to see me as anything other than an intern. (It doesn't help that I'm only 22, very recent college grad, and they are all middle-aged men that are married with children.)

Congrads on the new job, just put your leave in writing. Take a deep breath, say that you were offered another position and you will be leaving at this certain date!

We just lost a great receptionist because the admin manager in our division didn't work hard enough to increase her title/pay grade. And she was a great assistant to me with my responsibilies.

Crappy thing was as soon as she gave notice and they posted her job they decided it was worth an Admin Asst. position and bumped it up 2 pay grades. She was really upset and I don't blame her.
