I disagree. Animals are innocent like children.
We have to take responsibility for them. |

Well for example. I have a friend that I was a K9 handler with. His police service dog came down with hip dysplagia and had to have hip surgery and was moreless healthy but could not be a police dog anymore so he became the guys household pet. One day he was just out playing in the yard, chasing a tennis ball, took a sharp turn to come back and his surgery blew apart. The rod that was running down his leg came out through the skin and blew out all over the place. He watched in terror as his dog squirmed and writhed in pain with bone and steel pins spaying out from his muscle and skin.
Would you take him to surgery and fix or put him down? |

I think that's better than them suffering. |

it's not a agree/disagree question, there are many factors that need to be taken into account. Someone that will never have quality of life again ever and is suffering. I say Hell yes

Hundreds of thousands of dollars each year being spent to keep people who are brain dead going on life support. Sure, in most cases, insurance is covering it. But where is that money coming from? All of us paying for medical insurance. One of the many many factors that goes into the high costs of medical insurance.
A person who desperately wants to end his or her own suffering but is not capable of it any longer. They should have the right to request it to end. Forcing them to continue to suffer is just another from of torture. Yet one we justify. If there is life there is hope? Really, when every second is pure pain and misery? A person should have the right to decide when quality of life is so bad that life is not living but torture. |

I remember when this first became a national discussion in the 80's with Dr. Kovorkian (sp)and it was a topic often discussed among us in certain classes and with friends at the cafes' late at night. So I know where I stand and why. Later, I had two grandparents die of cancer.
After my grandfather died, my grandmother had a living will drawn up. When she came down with untreatable cancer in her spine, her doctor wanted to know why in the world they spent so much time and money treating my grandfather's cancer. He had taken a look at the type of cancer it was. Turned out my grandfathers doctor never bothered to mention that only 1% of people with cancer that wide spread ever survive. It was colon cancer that had spread to the lymphatic system and was all over his body before he finally decided to go to the doctors. He had a horrible year on chemo trying to treat something that was so wide spread that he never really had any hope. I think the doctors were more intersted in the money for the treatment than him having better quality of life, even if it didn't last as long. |
