What does Eisenhower have to do with the McCarthy hearings? he was president at the time is all i said hearings were not good i do not think he could have done much to stop them not within his powers (and do not really know what his postition was) --------------update looks like he did not care for mccarthy's actions http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/presidents/34_eisenhower/eisenhower_politics.html |

But after the Eisenhower administration took power, McCarthy continued his attacks, even suggesting that the Presidents nominees for important ambassador positions were disloyal or subversive. Republican leaders could not persuade McCarthy, a member of their own party, to halt his attacks on a Republican administration.
Yet Eisenhower did not want to criticize McCarthy publicly, as he was fearful that such a direct confrontation would demean his office or work to the senators advantage: I just wont get into a pissing contest with that skunk, the President declared. http://millercenter.org/academic/americanpresident/eisenhower/essays/biography/4 |

nobody mentions him because he fought an "illegal" war in the atlantic with the german uboats before we were officially at war witht he germans. They also don't mention him because he started the downward spiral of our great republic with the chicken in every pot, car in every garage mentality. The great beginning of Gov reinforced socialism in this country. Oh, and let's not forget about the whole "allowing pearl harbor to happen" God forbid you help the victims of the depression or any other unfortunate soul. as for allowing pearl harbor to happen that is in dispute.FDR was a good president as was teddy roosevelt.i also like lincon and jefferson. |
