Well, here is some advice you might want to heed. Call her pediatrician and ask them what they would recommend and encourage.

And tampons are actually far cleaner and neater than pads, and age has nothing to do with it. Embarrassment is paramount at her age, and nothing is more embarassing than a blood stain.

Call her doctor.

i did just call her doctor and the nurse did say that either one is ok. is there a certain size for her? i think i did look once or twice for feminine poducts but got overwhelmed with all the choices. thanks to all

I'm sure the slender size will do just fine for her. And if she is going to use the tampons, you may also get her panty liners, just in case of an accident. If you go with the pads, choose the Always brand. They have "wings" that fold over the sides of her panties to prevent leakage. And trust me, that is the last thing she needs is to be in public and have a blood stain.

First of all she will start her period when she reaches about 115lbs. I am a mother of two daughters, one is 20 and the other is 14. The 14 year old has not started because she is only 89 lbs...lol. Have a sit down with your daughter before this time comes and let her know that when she starts her period it will be a cool thing because that means she is now a woman. Well, in a physical sense.

Buy her thin- winged pads. Also, buy her small tampons...cardboard type..not plastic. Those plastic ones are not for starters. She may cut herself because of the way they are designed. Oh, and some vaseline for her to insert the tampons. If it is summer this will be important ( swimming etc.) If not summer, then let her decide when to start using tampons. It is scary to alot of young girls.

Find a teenage girl or relative SHE feels comfortable with to teach her how to use these items. The instructions will leave her in tears and confused.

This is a big moment for a young girl. It can either be scary as hell of a very proud moment for her in her life. If you are not comfortable dealing with this it is alright. Just find someone she is able to talk with and have someone talk to her NOW...not once it happens. She should be prepared.

When I got my period I was not scared or confused, I just opened up the tampon box and read the directions. Never looked back.

Pads are gross and messy. Give her the choice of both. And the dry-weave stuff? Not healthy.

Oh, funny story. My mother did not tell me crap. I went to the store and bought tampons myself. I cried reading the instructions. I put the WHOLE tampon in and could not walk. I had heard that it hurt to wear tampons...rumor by the way. Yea, it does hurt if you don't pull the carboard out. I pulled it all out before I left the restroom. It took me a few months until I complained to a friend and she laughed hard as hell. But, she taught me how and I thank her for it....lol.

if you get her tampons try juniors or slenders along with panty liners or very thin pads to start with that way she has a little extra protection

go online and search anything you can on young girls and gettin their periods will give you tips on how to help her when she feels like crap and she will, on how to avoid embarrasement and make it easier for you to talk to her about it without being flabergasted

look over material with her so you and her can get a connection

and she will feel that you and her can talk about it without embarrasing each other

good luck
