Anyway, she came screaming to me thinking she was dying, I thought she was hemmoraghing (new termlearned in health class a few weeks prior, lol) and we BOTH panicked. Again, thinking she was hemmoraging or something, I tried applying a pressure bandage, while I had sent the enighbor boy to fetch my mother (five trailers down). My mother came running like a bat outta hell cause the neighbor told her there was blood everywhere, and nothing else. You can imagine the embarrassment all the way around ![]() Now that is funny. I feel bad for the Mom, poor thing probably had a heart attack. ![]() That was my biggest fear was that she would freak out. But I really think she handled it pretty good. Now she's wanting to tell all her friends about it, boys and girls, lol. Oh to be young and innocent ![]() |

Good Job Mom. I take my 2 daughters to almost all their Dr.s, Dentist, Orthod. appts. I explained that the Dr./Nurse will always ask, When was your last period, was it normal? So please keep track of it. And I explained why they ask. I am an RN, and my girls ask all kinds of questions. Yes I had to explain what a pap smear is to a 14 yr. old.

Well the pre-event conversation and the heart to heart sounded ok but I have a hard time wonderering why a PARENT (male or more realisticly a Mom) would not have had a reserved supply of pads, a book (I recommend Our bodies Ourselves), a set of well fitting panties, a calendar (one of the posts already expalined the importance of keeping track when for medical reasons but since some children are sexually active MUCH earlier than parents expect I think I would consider condems, and maybe even a water bottle available in a pretty covered basket. If you are no better prepared for her to be sexually active than you were in this situation I hope you are not a grandmother before you expect it. Just because at the moment she is professing no desire for sex that can change almost overnight.

If you are no better prepared for her to be sexually active than you were in this situation I hope you are not a grandmother before you expect it. Just because at the moment she is professing no desire for sex that can change almost overnight. I believe I was very well prepared. The only thing I lacked was a pad. And the main reason I didn't have any pads was both her doctor and my doctor, articles in books and websites, and from people I know, all told me that girls usually start their period about the same time as their Mom. And considering I didn't start mine until I was 2 months shy of my 12 birthday, (which is about the same time my mother started hers)and based on the information I received from everyone and everything, I thought I had, at the very least, another year to go being that she will be 10 next month. And I did (the next day) make her up a care package in a small make-up bag to keep in her purse. I put in 2 pads, a travel pack of babywipes, and a clean pair of panties. She already has a calendar so there was no need to get her another one. But I'm still trying to figure out what the water bottle is for? And I didn't feel the need to buy her a book because we looked up alot of information together on medical websites and also found a great medical site http://www.kidshealth.org that explains alot of things in terms she will understand. And as for being sexually active, I know my daughter. We have a very close relationship and we talk about everything. She is not afraid to come to me about any subject. She is also very smart and has a good head on her shoulders. She doesn't let people tell her what to do or try to convince her to do something she doesn't want to do. She sticks up for her friends and speaks up when something isn't right or if someone is being treated unfairly. But at the same time, I'm not blind or stupid enough not to notice any signs that would let me know that she is interested in a boy in that way. I know that I don't have to worry about her becoming sexually active for quite some time. And honestly, I think 9 years old is just way to young to be presenting her with condoms or presenting her with any kind of birth control. When I think the time is appropriate, I will give her the necessary advice as well as preparing her for when that time comes. |

The only thing I want to add hun, is you DO need to expose her to condoms BEFORE she becomes active, so she can have timne to get comfortable with them and the idea of what they represent and are meant for. So she KNOWS how to use them properly the first time she needs to, and is not uncomfortable enough to not use it out of embarassment. Same thing goes for the boys ![]() |

I wonder why your daughter was crying when she told you she never wanted to have sex. Why does she, at her age, associate
sex with something obviously so unpleasant that it makes her cry??? Did you give that any thought? |

My turn is coming on this subject. My daughter is 10, just turned 10 in April, and myself and her pediatrician have for the last year been expecting her to start any day now basically. She does not look like she is 10 at all, she is very tall and very filled out, bought her a new bra Sunday when we went shopping, 34B, and thighs and hips, and butt for days, no stomach though, thank goodness. She truly hates the fact that she does not look like she is 10. For the last year I have made sure that her teachers know that she has pads in her bookbag, and I keep them at home just in case, and also those sanitary wipes are in her bookbag just in case she may be at school. We have had many, many conversations on this subject, because we have been expecting her to start like I said any day now, but she has not. I told her the day she starts her period, we are going to spend the day together, go shopping, and go eat the biggest piece of cheesecake that we can find, and celebrate her becoming a young woman, and of course I know I will be a TOTAL basketcase inside, but I will not let her see that. I want her to feel comfortable, and proud, and to understand all at the same time of what her body is going through, I just pray that I can handle this myself, as well as you did, the day this should happen!!!
![]() You handled the situation PERFECTLY in my opinion!!! |
