I consider religion to be my faith in God, where my spirituality is my belief and acceptance of the energy that drives nature, self, the interactions between all things and well, the universe.

great question.
For starters and just for grins, I would have to say that religion involves a consensus for a shared common viewpoint and that spirituality may not necessarily require a religious consensus. Inherent in all people is an innate sense that there is more to our existence than just being here as a random act. Some disagree with the view that "all" people have such a sense as an innate one. I am not one of them. |

Religion is taught and practiced. Spirituality is the life force of our bodies, souls, however you want to see it. One is not needed for the other but both can be in one person.

I believe more in sprituality than I do organized Religion. I believe the way you live your life is more important than attending a church service. But I am in no way putting down anyone thatdoes believe in church services.

For me it is religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell and spirituality is for me people who already been there. I like to use Jesus as my best example.

For me, religion is organized spirituality, often associated with doctrines, rituals and traditions.
Informal spirituality is not necessarily a “religion”. The very word ‘religion’ implies that things are done ‘religiously’ – dutifully, devotedly, consistently, loyally. In other words, the very word ‘religion’ implies ritual and tradition. So an informal spiritual behavior would be spirituality without adherence to ritual. Spirituality implies a belief in a spiritual essence of reality. Religion refers to the way those beliefs are conduced. All religions require spirituality. Spirituality does not require religion. |

I have not read anything but the original question.
But I bet a week salary that most of the people would say the difference is the dogma and the endoctrination. I would like to say that a religion without spirituality is very empty. What purpose serves a doctrine or a dogma if such thing does not increase the spirituality in a person? Therefore, first of all is my personal relationship with God (spirituality) and second is the religion and the study of the different dogmas and doctrines which reinforce my spirituality. |

They are coldly by the book and really have no life to them at all. I met one and he was a Catholic priest. The coldest, meanest man I had ever met before. No spirit in him at all, sadly. |

No spirit in him at all, sadly. with all due respect to you. I believe you are making a general judgment out of one person. I have no doubt that this priest is the way you describe him. I have known a lot like him. But also I have known a lot more the other way around. I respect your position towards religions, it's fine you have find peace through it, and I'm so happy for you. But please do not generalize, you will becoming like those christians who say all the rest of the people are sinners and all of them are going to hell. I believe you have a bigger heart than that. Peace |
