I think it's cause women were taken from men in the creation story. God, seeking a suitable helper for Adam after he said it's not good for man to be alone, took a rib from Adam with the guy in a deep sleep, wrapped flesh around the rib, blew the breath of life into Eve's body and voila, a woman! Adam and Eve got together and it's been off we go ever since! Woman, the word, literally means, "from man" according to some things I've seen. Since then, though, it's taken women to create all the guys!
