No there is a difference in between hearing somone and when you listen to someone one. When you Listen to someone things tend to go through one ear out the other. When you actually hear what there saying then it sets in....

I was reading all these and started getting confused! I was listening (with my eyes, reading) but was losing understanding, lol. I have my students at school do an activity called active listening where they have to listen to another person talk for at least 2 minutes (they start with that amount of time and then go longer), then they have to repeat in their own words what they heard the person say. Then they say, "did I get that right? Is there anything I missed that was important?" That works pretty well, even though when they first do it they feel stupid! How many times do we 'listen', but we aren't really listening? We say things like 'uh huh' and 'that's nice' to be polite... especially when we are growing up! (At least I did with my parents... too much.)
