Okay, on a more serious note (actually I did spend some time standing in the corner, but I don't think it was supposed to be fun) here's some oldies.
Duck, duck, goose Red Rover Dodge Ball (yeah, it might be illegal, but these kids won't rat you out) Spin around in circles until you fall down (they should be young enough still) Capture the flag Bring a slip and slide in (wait until last period to use it then send them home wet) Can anyone say "limbo" (might want to pack a margarita for yourself on that day) We had a game called "wild horses" similar to tag, but you have a "corral" and a couple of "cowboys" instead of just one "it." That ought to be a good start. I still want to know how a first grader ended up in summer school to begin with!!! |

There are a lot of websites online that can help. Edhelper.com is one. I'm thinking back in school one teacher used a pole with a string and magnet on it in which we caught fish that also had magnets on them and she taught math this way. Bingo was another game.

capture the flag (I can't believe you don't know this, we still played in college, except it was at midnight and we all wore black):
divide the class into two teams. Use a large playground if possible and divide that in half. Each team gets a flag (towel or old tshirt is fine) Give them 30 secs to hide the flag on their half of the field. The first team to "capture" the other teams flag, and return it to there own wins. If they get touched while carrying another teams flag, the flag gets dropped on the spot. A team can return it's flag to it's original location, or it can be advanced from the dropped spot. Both flags must be together at once for there to be a win or score. In college, we made a tagged player actually return and touch his own flag before he could make another attempt at the opposing teams flag. Generally we would leave two or three players to play defense, but that's just strategy. The important thing is they run and hence will be more apt to sit still in class. |

Nickers, don't you remember being six?
Make learning fun! The key is not to make it look like learning. Oh, and use the word "underpants" often. |

Heads up seven up It's like duck duck goose only not really lol. 7 kids are picked at first.. all the other kids put they're heads down on a desk or w/e with they're eyes closed... And they're thumbs up. then the 7 kids standing each pick one kid and when 7 kids have been picked. You say heads up seven up.. and each kid gets one guess as to who picked them. And, if they guess right they replace that kid who is standing up.
