Topic: How long? | |

How long should you wait before meeting someone from here. I mean you have been talking via e-mail and maybe even by phone, but how long should you get to know this person before you actually make that step to meet in person

There is no time frame for these types of things. Each circumstance is unique. The only thing I can say is do not rush. Gain as much information as possible about the person.
The decision should be based on heart and HEAD. Information=knowledge. Knowledge gives you the power to make better decisions. |

Lots of variables there. You have to look at the level of communication, the distance, the comfort factor, red flags (if any)-- there are lots of things that could factor into it.
I have met 9 people from dating sites (no one from here). The shortest length of time between initial contact and in-person meeting was 2 weeks, and that was a huge mistake. But she lived nearby and was very adamant about meeting as soon as possible. I was new to dating sites, and too naive not to go along with her. And she turned out to be an arsonist. The longest I waited between initial contact and in-person meeting was almost a year, and that one actually worked out very nicely for awhile. We're still close and she does a lot of work for me on my books and such. Just as a ballpark figure, for me, I can't imagine myself meeting anyone from a dating site without at least 2-3 months of preliminary contact. And that would be only if there were no major bad indicators along the way. As a practical matter, I no longer use dating sites as a way of meeting people, though. |

I would wait at least 24 hours...just in case they had been drinking...give them time to sober up.
