what I love are people in a SMOKING bar complaining about the smoke it's like going to a bar complaining about the drinking I guess Nope smoking infringes on other peoples rights. in a smoking bar??? that is posted SMOKING BAR? that's funny A Bar sells alcahol not cigs. Most bars in this state sell ciggarettes too... If you walked into a bar that was clearly marked SMOKING BAR here and asked someone not to smoke near you, well lets just say It would really suck to be you.... |

I doubt Oregon is going to pass a full fledged smoking ban. That is unless they find something else to tax to death first.

that is why restaurants have smoking areas and non smoking areas Yes but just cuz there is a sign this side non smokin and the other is smoking. That is a joke, smoke travels. I know what smoking does first hand to people, being an oncology nurse i take care of people that had or does still smoke everyday. Most smokers no offense don't really care what they are doing to their body but alot of our tax dollars are taking care of them. And it is proven that second hand smoke causes cancer. If u want to smoke feel free, i just don't want to smell or inhale it. Not everyone is a polite smoker. I agree with u on that too, but the bottom line is second hand smoke does kill, if u want to smoke by all means lite up, but i do believe that i shouldn't have to inhale it when i am eating or out and about. It is a touchy subject for people, cuz ones that smoke feel that they should be able to smoke anywhere they want cuz it isn't illegal, but becuz it does cause an innocent non smoking person to get cancer then thats when the government steps in. Whether u agree or disagree they are protecting the nonsmokers, just like making drinking and driving illegal cuz it can cuz harm to an innocent person. This is a topic that smokers will disagree and nonsmokers will agree. So i guess the best comment is we agree to disagree I dont think we do disagree. I argue that a place to eat, or frequented by children is no place to smoke. bars, properly marked as smoking areas should be allowed to stay as such. all the any business has to do would put up a sign as well we allow smoking we do not recommend you enter if smoking offends you ------------------------- either it is allowable or not why shoul mr n be permitted to tell the person that has invested 10s of thousands of dollars maybe more how to run his business it is not right and the business owner should have the right to chose and if he choses to then he need air cleaners as well good for the sq footage smoking is permitted in not that hard and facism is not the way to do it |

I am sitting here, reading all of the arguments, both pros and cons, with a patch on my shoulder and wanting a smoke so badly that I am about to jump out of my skin. I have smoked for nearly 40 years and when I get up in the morning I cough for 5 min. and try to puff down a smoke. I smoked the last one only 2 hours ago, and I want to go buy another pack so badly. This is why I am on the computer now, and not in the car gooing down the street.

I'm a smoker and I'm getting a bit tired of the self-righteous attitude of non-smokers. If you don't want to be around cigarette smoke than don't. Last I checked, it's still LEGAL. I think it's more that people don't like that kind of attitude. You say you're tired of the "self-righteous attitude" that non-smokers have, yet your attitude is no better. |

I quit smoking years ago but it doesn't bother me if others smoke, unless it's in my car or my house...

I'm a smoker and I'm getting a bit tired of the self-righteous attitude of non-smokers. If you don't want to be around cigarette smoke than don't. Last I checked, it's still LEGAL. It may be legal but it can be lethal. Tell me how one can avoid the cigarette smoke in public when walking down a street, and why should one have to cross the street or whatever to avoid the smoke? Are you too ill-informed to know that many people are allergic to cigarette smoke? If I am near cigarette smoke, my eyes burn and water, I have a hard time breathing. I think you should look up the word "consideration" and apply it to your smoking habits. Lindyy |

Take it outside...I dont wanna smell it.
I dont fart around you...cause you dont like to smell it. And it is rude (farting or smoking). |

Drinking is legal, but you can't drink everywhere.
Just a thought. I am fine with smoking in bars or other adult places, but restaurants (I am talking chain, if its mom and pop type place do what you want), colleges, and large public places like malls smoking should be banned. |

I agree with consideration. I smoke in my own house, but, not other ppls unless they offer me an ash tray and smoke themselves. However, I have had ppl at my house ask me not to smoke, in my own house, mind you, because it bothered them.WTF it is my house. If you don't like my smoking, then don't come visit!!! The nearest town to me just banned smoking in all public places, restaraunts, bars, etc. All that it accomplished was that restaraunts and bars lost nearly 50% of their business to the town 10 miles down the road. Now, they are complaining about the loss in tax revenue and wanting to raise property taxes to recoup the loss. Politicians, duhhhhhh

Politicians, duhhhhhh Willy_cents: That does take a lot of audacity to ask you not to smoke in your own home! A person knows you smoke and has the opportunity to choose not to visit you. I avoid places where I know there will be smokers. My complaint is the attitude of the original poster of this thread. There are people who cannot tolerate too much, if any cigarette smoke, we are not being 'high and mighty'. Oh, Willy, please stop polluting your poor lungs, it would be nice to have you around for a lot longer Hey, I could not get through to my son, maybe I can someone else. No one ever listens to me.
