Topic: **SNOPES CONFIRMED VIRUS** | |
---|---|
This one is for real...
http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/mailserver.asp This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access t o the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled "Mail Server Report" If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'. PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY! THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES |

Do people really still open emails they don't know who from? I never open emails unless they are from someone I know personally.

Um the title of the virus email is called "Life Is Beautiful," not mail server report... Actually the link i provided describes both, "life is beautiful" was a hoax, this one is real. What they are saying, is the email circulating about life is beautiful contains the phrase "confirmed by snopes" but it is not. |

As someone who works in the IT field, I would highly recommend you go to a reputable Anti-Virus vendors web site to verify the validity of any virus. Snopes is a fun site but I would take anything there with a grain of salt.
Try McAffe, Symantec (Norton's owner), or Trend Micro Anti virus...check one of their pages to validate ANY virus threat. |

I checked McAffe, This is not listed as a hoax, also, the virus described infects win/32, i cannot however, find a positive declaration on the virus called "mail server" if you could point me to that it would be appreciated, Thanks, Mark |

One thing i did find, is that McAffe did list "life is beautiful" as a hoax, just as snopes does. But not this one, also i'm sure snopes does check the major sites for info. lol, but you have my curiosity going now. |

Thanks for the heads up and will be checking back in.......I just ran a scan and updates with Norton. I don't open anything until or unless I know who it is from.
