I will always buy if I get some dessert later.

I dated a guy who refused to let me treat...ever, and it became a little uncomfortable to suggest places to go out. I didn't want to go with him to try that new restaurant, because it's like asking him to spend a lot of money on me to suggest it. I treated a friend instead. Uncomfortable situation solved!

Why does a date have to cost at all?
Cost you what? AN hour of your time, some practical thought, a stretch of the imagination? I would pay for that! |

I agree with Jenna. The biggest cost to me is my time. If I feel it's worth it, I'll pay.

If a guy asks me out on a date I expect him to pay. I am never offended if it is basiclly a free date; like hanging out at the park, watching some free community event, church, or window shopping at the mall and in a brand new relationship I actually prefer it. After a few dates I would expect to reciprocate the compliment, which I believe a date is, by asking the gentleman to something, maybe even pricey, that I would treat for. If we are dateing routinely it would be highly likely I would even chip in when he was paying such as a dessert for a meal or drinks at a movie. A date is not suppose to break a guy. Would it be equal to what he can contribute? Probably not. I tend not to make the finacial resources that the men I date do because my career was predominently public service and raiseing a family; neither high paying. People of my generation generally value that however.

Why should the guy always have to pay? If things are to be on a 50/50 basis, whats the problem if a woman has to pay. To me it shows some class and respect.
