so housing them in prisons for the rest of thei lives? not trying to argue...just clarifying what you are saying is all Punishment is different for different institutions whatever the state feels in punishment. I say make them work myself, we all have to, so should they, but that is up to the states themselves. |

I say make them work myself, we all have to, so should they, but that is up to the states themselves. I actually agree with you on that but not sure there is a perfect solution. But I know I don't want them back on the streets or breaking out of prison either. If someone murdered my son...I would hope Texas got him before me |

I feel if someone killed my children, taking their life does not bring my kids back so it is futile to desire that. I would not want them to be free to do it again though.

you are right...it won't bring the child back but it would stop that person from doing it again

Killing someone does not make them repay their debt to society. It is revenge in a nutshell.Letting them rot in a cell instead of doing something productive to repay their debt doesn't work for me either. Make them productive in some way.

im infavor of the death penalty but it is not carried out fast enough. We should bring back the old style chain gangs. Make them bust gravel for the rest of there life.

still pretty primitive for the age we live in, surely you have a better imagination than that.. Actually - I was putting it forward as a discussion point, however, if you read the top - it was for a national vote on the matter. Obviously, you would vote against it - which is your *right* - and the majority opinion would rule, either for or against. I do believe the current death penalty is not a deterrent. If you want to use it as such - it needs to be quick and certain. Is it a revenge thing? Arguably so perhaps - but if you remove the lift and liberty of a person, I certainly believe YOUR life and liberty should be removed. If you kill them, then the punishment should fit the crime - we, as a society are are going to kill you. If the national vote was against - then I believe as Rayne and some others stated - no rotting away in a cell - you are going to work, and work hard. Chain gangs are one good start. However, Neal - Yellow has asked several times for your opinion. While we 'get it' that you are against the death penalty, and consider it barbaric (your right, again) What do you suggest? I put mine out there for all to comment on, and you replied: still pretty primitive for the age we live in, surely you have a better imagination than that.. Let US see what you think, since it is your topic, and thus far being debated in a good manner. |

I happen to be born and raised in Texas. I support the death penalty.

I don't recall starting this topic and since I sense two of you clammering for my head on a stick, I'll not to give you that satisfaction because regardless of what my opinion is on this matter, it will be disproved because our views are ultimately different. Don't see anyone 'clammering for your head on a stick" However, your reply to my quote "Surely you have a better imagination than that" Well, if you are going to throw that out - you ought to be ready to provide YOUR imagination. Otherwise, you start to look like others that whine about a problem, but are unwilling to even consider any alternative solutions. I put my solution out there, with a national vote - go for it. |

What about this one? Moderators???

Fine, you want my opinion, I think it should abolished utterly. I don't care how heinous crimes are, no would should have to die for them. By executing them, you let them win. Keep them alive, let their guilt kill them. Look at Stanley Tookie, former leader of the crips. they executed him for killing two people, even though he did a complete 180 with his life and even won a nobel peace prize for his children's books, but it ultimately did not save his life. It should've, that was a good man and shouldn't have died. So thats my opinion, as straightforward as can be..

Of course there are still murders in Europe, as there are murders everywhere, but that doesn't deter the euros executing their prisoners.

Okay...we got that. You don't like the death penalty, and you want it abolished. Covered that already - your opinion, and you have a perfect right to it.
SSSoooo...what do we do with those who would have formerly been convicted with a death penalty? What do you propose we do with these prisoners? Rot in a cell, chain gang, ???????? |
