our household was in between the two. we have ton of good memories. could (and still can) talk to our parents about anything. knowing that they may be disappointed but will still stand by us. we had our share of sibling rivalry as well, but in the end if anyone messed with me, my brothers were right there ready to kick some butt for me. lol. my family is not perfect. but i wouldnt have it any other way.

depends on the reason that you are writing to someone in the first place... if you want to talk to them because you think they are hot you just have to tell them so (however you will probably not get the best response). If you saw something in their profile that caught your eye, like a similar interest tell them about the last time you did blah blah blah (ya know, whatever it is they also like to do). If they live in a city that you have never been to but always wanted to go, ask them about some of the hot spots or tourist attractions.
