BTW, for the actual answer. For a semi-automatic weapon, there are three positions that the hammer can be situated. Uncocked-as in when it's holstered, half-cocked -when the hammer is halfway back(used as a secondary safety), and cocked-ready to fire.

Bright sunshiny day.........for now! Supposed to be rainy off and on all weekend

I took the day off! And he knows how busy I am right now, with our graduation taking place on Monday...this is the last day of practice before the big day. Plus I have tons of work to do on my students' memory books still. He knows this. So he really should have called me so I could go to work today if he isn't coming.

Trying not to jump to conclusions. And of course, if he does call, I will be nice and hear him out and no go off on him half-cocked. What does "half-cocked" mean, anyway? Some sort of gun-slinger terminology?

Guy I am seeing. Remember? The one in Florida. He was supposed to come for a visit, his flight was going to get in at noon yesterday. Then he calls and tells me that there was a medical problem with his mom and that he was going to have to take the later flight, which arrived at 9:30pm last night. He said he would call me when he landed. The plan was he was going to rent a car, come pick me up and then we go get a hotel...we always do this when he visits.

He has not called. And his flight should have landed 9 hours ago! I have been up all night worrying. I left him two voice mails and a text message telling him I was really worried and to please call me. Nothin'. I'm not sure what to think. I hope there was not an emergency with his mom. Or maybe his phone was dead when he got off the flight or who knows what. But in any case, he's had plenty of time to let me know whether he is okay, don't you think? I'm really upset.
