**** canning unions would be a good start. Productivity would increase and all the outrageous minimalizations of work responsibilities coupled with undue wages (compared to non-union) would certainly help level out the job market and actually require (gasp) a work ethic and personal responsibility.

To the union people...don't get too ticked off at that statement...my brother is union in an admin position and he agrees with me.

Good to know we agree on at least one thing, krupa! shades

"This combination of factors has enabled the Republican Party to guide a large portion of the American population into a never-never-land of made-up facts and raging paranoia. "
laugh

Interesting that, after having it pointed out that this entire article is nothing but a liberal/Democrat propaganda piece, you would quote this line, which pretty much proves the point, just in case anyone missed it on first reading.

Another fascinating line from the article:

"In the face of the record deficits spurred by Reagan and Bush tax cuts, the party simultaneously embraced the neocon agenda of expanding America's global empire and settling international problems through the costly option of military force."

First, it is a matter of historical fact that tax cuts spur economic growth and have brought significantly MORE revenue into the government's coffers than was coming in previously. For example, the annual revenue to the federal government nearly DOUBLED under the eight years of Reagan. Since that is the case, the only thing increasing the deficits during such times is an even larger increase in spending. In Reagan's case, since the House (where budgets and finances are hammered out) was overwhelmingly Democrat-controlled during Reagan's entire eight-year term, he had to compromise with them and give them some of the spending they wanted so badly in order to get what he wanted, which was to buildup the military in order to bankrupt the Soviets. Whether you like or dislike the strategy, it worked.

Second, this article was obviously written within the last few days, since it refers to Palin's impending resignation. To refer to the Reagan and Bush deficits as "record" anymore is, at the very least, disingenuous. The federal budget deficit this year is approaching two trillion dollars, which is at least FOUR TIMES the previous "record deficit" during the Bush administration. The near-$2T deficit does not even begin to include some of the programs that the current administration is only now attempting to push through, such as the potential government takeover of health care or the second "stimulus package" that is being discussed.

Third, military solutions are indeed costly. Costlier still, however, is a show of weakness to those around the world who understand no other method of "communication". Although I don't believe the government has the ability to keep us 100% safe all the time, I certainly feel safer with someone in the Commander-in-Chief position who has let the world know they are willing to use military force whenever it becomes necessary.

A few problems.

The democrats have had as much if not more of a hand in the current crisis than is admitted in this little bit of pure propaganda.

Budget crisis is not caused by tax cuts but rather by spending more than available cash flow, a refusal by those in politics to let go of their money tree. (even though they know the production of money is less than the nourishment it receives).

Democrats and Republican alike (as far as party line and party first) have been concerned for quite some time about CONTROL of the country instead of GOVERNANCE of the country.

Any writings that do not address the complete picture are simply PROPAGANDA...

I like Joe Biden... He has inadvertantly let the american people get a glimpse of comming attractions many times. (I am sure his party has censured him for it in private)

I hope he keeps 'slipping' he may actually let us know about something really disastrous in time for us to do something to stop it.

Your entire post is quite well-said, AB ... but the highlighted bit is probably the most important. It's sad that there is a media in this country that thinks they should participate in affecting the outcome of elections, but what's even more sad is the number of people who buy into that. I'm for completely vetting ALL the candidates, and letting the chips fall where they may ... unfortunately, I doubt we'll ever actually see that happen in my lifetime.

"Truly, Sarah Palin has come a long way. When she ran for vice president, she frequently became disjointed and garbled when she departed from her prepared remarks."

From the tone of the article, it's obvious the writer supported the Dem ticket last year. Amazing that she didn't notice those very same characteristics about the TOP of the ticket on that side, considering how apparent they were to the rest of us. Biden, of course, puts his foot in his mouth whether his remarks are prepared or not.

you know.. if i don't know you're shy i can scare the hell out of you easy because i'm very outgoing. extrovert and all.

but if i have a heads up... i'll say hi. or skip hi completely and make a short quiet comment on whatever the situation may be. try to make you smile because i know you won't be barrel laughing in public.

let that pin drop. but keep the conversation rolling in spurts.

too much scares a shy person. you gotta give them breathers. :)

trust me. i know.. being all out in the open all the time has let me learn over the years how to deal with people who aren't like me. and you gotta respect the shyness.

I'm extremely outgoing as well. If they're just somewhat shy, and not painfully shy, sometimes we boisterous, outgoing types can kinda "shake 'em up" into saying something. In a nutshell, that's how I met my ex-wife.

If they are one of the painfully shy, though, I recommend what "bobbysocks" said above. [Although, to be honest, if you're THAT outgoing, and they're THAT shy, to be more than friends is probably a recipe for disaster.]

I get up 5 am start job one while Im waiting on more work for job one I work on jobs 2 & 3. Then I also try to squeeze some time to be a mom, seeing as I work from home and have a constant flow of kids here. I do this all day long by myself with no help from anyone. Then I work and work some more until I get to go bed to between 12-3 everyday because alot of my work is on the West coast and I dont get my files until late seeing as there is a 3 hour time delay, then maybe if I'm lucky I get some sleep just to start again the next day.

Im very involved with my kids lives and the lives of their friends. I am the one that gets the 3 am knocks on the door from their friends when theres a problem. I love them all so much. I am kind of starting my new life at the same time they are starting theirs. Its a bizzarr experience to say the least. These kids are the whole reason I'm even on these sites lol they all jointly set me up on every web site known to man trying to help me find a man lol I didn't realize at the time I needed a life of my own. I was not a willing participant until they asked me to just trust them. So here I am trusting them lol. One of my kids friends is leaving on Thursday July 12th for the marines, and James is like one of my own kids. So I'm very emotional today lol the last couple of months has been one major mile stone after the other, not to mention the constant major life changes over the last 7 years. But just recently I have watched my son turn 18 and graduate high school. I have also signed MY SON up for college!!!! Im beyond proud of him. My daughter is now able to drive. Im working for the first time in 19 years and I'm finding sucess however big or small every where I go. So as you can imagine I'm really getting tired of crying and feeling old lol.

Im fiercly loyal and have a lil pit bull in me when it comes to protecting the ones I love. I dont really fit into any one particular social group at all. Im not normal but surprisingly normal all at the same time, so I've been told. I've been through some really rough stuff the last few years stuff that would drive most of you to murder. I've Lost everything but my kids and myself, and I'm still standing on my own two feet and happier than I have ever been in my life. Im saying that Im not here for games, I'm allergic to B.S. and will not participate in it. I'm not going to chase you or waste time sweating the small stuff. I live everyday with only on regret and 1000% sure of my decisions, and of who I am and where I'm going. I know exactly what I wan't and will not settle for anything less than what I deserve.

THAT IS WHAT WOMEN LIKE ME DO!!!!

Emotional? Huh ... couldn't have guessed.

We have seen many posts in regards to borders and immigration. Much of it suggesting tighter borders, building fences, shutting people out.

Is there not a way that we could completely open our borders, let anyone in who wants in (with a few obvious exceptions), and make it easier to become a citizen?

That's pretty much what we have now, except that while some are going through the legal process to become citizens, MANY, MANY more are just crossing the border illegally and expecting to be taken care of as if they were a contributing citizen who HAD gone through the legal process.

I, like most that I've heard about on the same side of the issue, have absolutely no problem with people who want to become citizens of this country through legal means. As for the others, they would do well to respect the laws of our country FIRST before they try to benefit from the things that (up until now) have been available to the citizenry.

One of the many gripes in your opening post was (and these are your words):

I just don't understand what makes a celebrity death so much more important than a regular person's death.

Yes, Michael Jackson was a great entertainer, but why should his life mean more to me, an average person, than mine would mean to him?

Does a celebrity morn (sic) the death of a fan, the one who made them the celebrity they are?

I answered that question. So again I ask you, are you mad because I answered your question? Or, are you mad because I was ABLE to answer your queston? OR....are you just mad because I was able to answer your question which you presumed to be unanswerable?

Certain "people" (and I use the term VERY loosely) just aren't worth the effort ...

This is another travesty for America. Brace yourselves, you ain't gonna know what hit you in the coming months....
scared Counting votes is a travesty?scared

No, I didn't say that. Idiots like Franken and his liberal co-horts running the House is the travesty. Everyone who voted for Obama will soon get exactly what they deserve. And they won't be happy about it unless they're mooching off the Gov't.
 Why are the republicans losing?

Because too many of the ones that are already there in Washington have apparently been convinced that in order to win, they need to offer pretty much the same things the Dems are offering, just in a "better way". Which is to say, they're gonna screw us up the tailpipe slower and with less force, but they're still gonna screw us.

 What happened when the republicans wuz in control of everything?

By the time a "Republican" was in the White House, the House Repubs had already begun the process of losing most of whatever spine they had when they won Congress back in '94. The Senate has for a long time been populated with too many of the spineless breed of Repubs (especially those from the extremely liberal northeast), but when the House went soft, too ... well, it led to where we are now.
