The Wish
|

A child walked on a road,
The sun, almost gone. His thoughts, such a burden, a load, Darkness comes before the Dawn. Hope had gone, flown away; Sadness was his only friend. His mind was torture, dark the Day. The road just twist and bent. Night was now his cloak, His tired eyes grew dim. Despair grew to choke When he lost his pup to Death's Hymn But, lo, behold! what was that he sees? A shooting star, in the sky! "A wish, should I ask?" He asked the tree; Wish, please, grow wings, and fly! I thought aloud to his heart. Words sprang, unbidden, to his lips I suppose that was the start, Like a pup that play bites and nips Faith danced around his soul. The wish flew past his sight, New as a foundling foal, Off, far, into the night; chasing that shooting star. Little did he know that night, The Wish would not give up and quit. It flew with hasty flight to find that star, that holy crypt. Where wishes flew and found their home beyond the skies. Bidden by the children abound, who's hopes would not, could not die So flew the Wish beyond the air, beyond the clouds on high. but the Star did fly, which was not fair' that it should fly so far to fail, ah cry, cry, But that Wish was determined to win, it flew on and beat it's wings; It would give it's Child a chance to grin, since Sadness brought him Dark thoughts and things. Fly on, fly on, the Wish thought to herself She flapped even harder, "On, on!" Always hoping, working hard, never thinking of herself; Darkness comes before the Dawn. But try as she might, she could not catch The shooting star above; She flew on to catch That single star above, Growing tired, so dim, so gone. But the shooting star had pity, Although it could not turn back, She called her sister of the Morning City; The Guardian angel when the day turned black. "Little one, I shall help" cried the Sister Star, and as she flew towards the wish, she said, "hop on my dress and ride my gown," Twas said to the Wish, almost dead, So the Wish crawled on the gown, While the night streamed on by; wish was so tired, so gone, so done, while the Sister Star did fly. Together close like the Moon to the Sun, Was the star that shot across the sky. Wish returned that morning To the child sleeping by Deep was the child, slightly snoring, Wish could understand why. "I'm sorry I failed, my little one" The Wish did weep and sigh, "I wanted to catch the star before the Sun Raised his head towards the sky" The little child turned over, and in his arms did lay, A little pup the child did cover; and on it's crown did lay A scar shaped like a star, That child got his wish that day. |
