Surprisingly, the majority of people take jury duty very seriously, from everything I've read. However, there are certainly some who lie during the jury selection phase and make it on the jury with a preconceived notion of guilt or innocence. That said, a judge may overrule a jury's guilty verdict if it is found that there was insufficient evidence to support the conviction. And no, you can't legally be terminated for having jury duty, at least not in the U.S. That's a wrongful termination suit waiting to happen.

It was absolutely great, River! We clicked so well, talked for hours, had coffee and apple pie for starters, walk through town, more coffee, then we went to my place as I felt I could trust him and he didn't want to leave until 6-ish because of the horrific traffic jams we get. So back to my place, sat in the garden, he was chuffed to see my home, cats, paintings for real. Then we went out to have fries and snacks, coffee at my place before he had the long drive home (almost 3 hrs which for Dutch standards is very far and long). Basically that takes you from 1 end of the country to the other, horizontally. Me a stone throw from the North Sea in the west, he on the German border to the east. That's why we decided months ago we're too far apart for dating. And you know the best thing of all, or in a way the saddest, hihi... he looked great, was quite attractive! I had not seen that coming as in the photos on the dating site he doesn't look that attractive at all. So I was pleasantly surprised but in a sense even more disappointed that we live so far apart. And he was a real gentleman too. Constantly checking in to see if I was okay about XYZ. Wonderful to experience! Oh well... it is what it is. And glad to read you did some more home improvements! Let the sun shine in, hihi. Sounds like a great time, Crystal! Sorry you live so far apart. Will you continue to talk as friends? OT: Feeling icky. I think I'm getting sick.

@Rpbrampton Yes, you are right. She did it behind my back without telling me. Huge red flag. But I pointed it out and the situation was resolved. She has only been in the country for less than one year. She is from China. Maybe in her culture, this behavior is more acceptable. In any case, I'm hoping it's been resolved. I used to live in China for a few years. Chinese ladies have an impression that Western men have a lot of money. So she may have thought it wouldn't matter to you? But still, I can't picture of the Chinese ladies I knew doing that. It seems rude. I would file it away, give her another chance if you really like her. But if you see any other instances where she tries to take advantage of you, I'd bail.

Depends on what you're in for. A lighter offense, maybe, if the lady is made fully aware of your crimes and is okay with writing to a man she can't actually be with. Any violent crimes, please stay far away from all women, including writing to them.

Putin is a little evil freak with mega complexes, I say this as a person who lived and worked in Russia and not just passing through as a tourist. I have used all systems. Russia is North Korea version 2.0 only the dictator is a very cowardly piece of **** the people there are stupid. TV steers what the TV will tell them and they will eat it. True. I live/work in Kazakhstan, which used to be part of the USSR. People here are rooting for Ukraine because they are worried that if Russia prevails, then Russia will try to take over other formerly-USSR countries. Several of my colleagues and students are Russian (many are Ukranian as well). They have family in Russia who believe everything they see on TV. They try to tell their families what's really going on but most of the families refuse to believe it. And the ones who do believe it are afraid to speak out, since there is no real freedom of speech in Russia.

Not really into either, but I'd probably choose Star Trek. I actually went with a friend to a Trekkie convention in Vegas once when I was in high school, and we met Nichelle Nichols (Urura) and James Doohan (Scotty). It was pretty fun. Everyone was wearing their Star Trek shirts and Spock ears.
