What the heck is up with people that are mean to you when you are down on your luck?!? Lost my job and home, car is in the shop, stuck at the Deluxe Inn motel and the management is so mean! Wait till your home is destroyed and flooded, your car is damaged and flooded, and you lose everything you've ever accumulated to flood or black mold from a major Hurricane!!! The mortgage company STILL wants their money for a house you can't live in and the boss won't give you any time off to fix what you can!!!! And no one cares whether we have kids or not....they are too worried about people in Africa or Thailand because "it's fashionable". There's LOTS of "need" right here at home!!! I apologize for ranting ya'll...... |

Its got XP and yes the plugs are directly beneath the keyboard and mouse plugs. I have no idea if there is a soundcard in it, and my boss is indisposed.
He's a rich guy that fell into a bottle of vodka, now he's in rehab. Don't know if I'll ever see him again 
Your sound is built onto the motherboard it could be deactivated in the BIOS if this was a business machine. There are several ways to get into the bios depending on the type of computer. It could be F1, or F2, or the DELETE key during bootup depending on the computer. Go in there and look under the periphials catagory and see if you have an item called onboard sound, or AC '97 sound or something like that. If it's disabled, go ahead and change that to enabled and that should get windows to recognize your sound option at the next bootup..... |

You can start out with the CHKDSK procedure that the other guy said. It will see if you have hard disk errors. Your icon or start menu will just say "my computer" though..... There are other things to do to speed that one up though and I'll chack back tomorrow on your progress if you want..... |

I got a used Dell from my boss and its about 3 years old but there is absolutely nothing on it. I mean it is a 75 gig hard drive with 60.8% free space. It has no sound and I don't know what to do 1st in order to fix it. Can't afford at this time to put it in the shop and have something done that I could do myself. Where do I start??? right click my computer click properties click tools top option error check ....check now ....check both boxes can not check now do you wanna run next start up (check yes) then restart computer (will take some time for this and if it does not work ..... go to device manager and see if the card is working and what kind it is then type in the card in google followed by drivers and down load the drivers and follow instructions given good luck 
I'm on about my 5th cold one right now so In a bit we'll see what happens.
I'm fixin to join ya!!!!! This procedure is only for windows 2000, windows XP and XP pro. Any NT based OS.....It's called CHKDSK..(check disk) and will attempt to fix any hard disk errors you might have. Just in the same menu screen is Defragmentation also. I suggest you to run that after you do the CHKDSK procedure. Both thinks might take a long time depending on the size of your hard drive. |

I bought and old windows 98 for 10cents. Everything is ok--except it is soooooooooo , sooooooooo slow. Can you help? W98 computer???? go to the "computer" icon and right click..on that menu left click properties and see what speed and memory you have |
