It was knowledge that the serpent used to make them think that they could be like God and it was the ego that caused them to want to be like God...which would later cause people to bend little words here and there to make Creation Man Centered instead of Garden centered...

How many people today play God under the guise of advancing knowledge... science... machinery?

Our inevitable departure from the Garden came from our adaptions towards the use of the tools we made after ataining that knowledge.
