I think having to renew a marriage licence is a great idea. In one sense it is romantic because you get to rechoose your spouse every few years. On the other hand it is financially better for if the marriage doesn't work out the two people can part company at the end of 3 or 5 years without losing the shirt of their backs or their souls to the lawyers and the family courts.
