<<<<Socialism is a utopian ideal intended to solve all of humanity’s problems including, above all, poverty and inequality. The theory and practice, alas, have tended to be at odds with one another.

Here is how Karl Marx outlined the future benefits of a socialist society:

“If we have chosen the position in life in which we can most of all work for mankind, no burdens can bow us down, because they are sacrifices for the benefit of all; then we shall experience no petty, limited, selfish joy, but our happiness will belong to millions, our deeds will live on quietly but perpetually at work, and over our ashes will be shed the hot tears of noble people.”

Leon Trotsky, the Soviet revolutionary, wrote that in a socialist society:

“Man will become immeasurably stronger, wiser, and subtler; his body will become more harmonious, his movements more rhythmic, his voice more musical. The forms of life will become dynamically dramatic. The average human type will rise to the heights of an Aristotle, a Goethe, or a Marx. And above these heights, new peaks will rise.”
<<<<

This relationship, clearly visible in Venezuela today, was first identified by the Nobel Prize-winning economist Friedrich Hayek in The Road to Serfdom.

In 1944, when he wrote his book, Hayek noted that the crimes of the German National Socialists and Soviet Communists were, in great part, the result of growing state control over the economy.

As he explained, growing state interference in the economy leads to massive inefficiencies and long queues outside empty shops. A state of perpetual economic crisis then leads to calls for more planning.

But economic planning is inimical to freedom. As there can be no agreement on a single plan in a free society, the centralisation of economic decision-making has to be accompanied by centralisation of political power in the hands of a small elite. When, in the end, the failure of central planning becomes undeniable, totalitarian regimes tend to silence the dissenters—sometimes through mass murder.

Political dissent under socialism is difficult, because the state is the only employer. To quote Trotsky again, “In a country where the sole employer is the State, opposition means death by slow starvation. The old principle: who does not work shall not eat, has been replaced by a new one: who does not obey shall not eat.” A free economy, in other words, is a necessary, though not a sufficient condition, for political freedom.

In East Germany, people often spied on their neighbours and, even, spouses.

Obviously, not everyone feels that dictatorship and mass murder are too high a price to pay for equality. Eric Hobsbawm, the British Marxist historian, for example, was once asked whether, if Communism had achieved its aims, but at the cost of, say, 15 to 20 million people – as opposed to the 100 million it actually killed in Russia and China – would he have supported it? His answer was a single word: Yes. Even today, many people, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau among them, fawn over Cuban dictatorship, because of its delivery of supposedly free health and education to the masses.

funny how all those Countries, like Venezuela and others are touted Socialist, yet when they fail, you can hear their Supporter moan:"B-b-but they were really never true Socialists"!laugh

You aren't reading carefully. It's different people saying each thing. And the only ones who are right, are the ones saying that they weren't "real" socialist nations.

However, it is also true, that socialism is no more magic than capitalism. Neither system causes countries to do well, when they are being run by inept fools, or corrupt jerks.

That's the main area where people who attack either system always seem to completely get everything wrong (as is being done in this thread).

Socialism haters in particular, blind themselves to the FACT that every successful organization, company, or country, contains elements of, and follows principles of socialism, in one or more areas of endeavor. Every single one. It is also true, that every organization, company or country which has ever collapsed or otherwise failed in the world, was utilizing elements common to capitalism in one or more areas of endeavor. In neither case, is the failure or success due to THE FACT that they used socialist or capitalist principles, the success or failure is due to THE FACT that they used each principle in the wrong application, and or did so very badly.

yep,I am reading very carefully!
You Guys never explain your definition of Socialism!
Like I said, your claim is that it never was Socialism when it fails,or the "Principles" were applied wrong!
But that argument is getting sort of worn and threadbare!
That Bird doesn't fly anymore!

Any of the Anti people here notice that Trump admitted that he actually fired Comey to try to stave off the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in our elections?

Or are you continuing to pretend that this is all about Democrats?

http://thefederalist.com/2017/05/17/former-attorney-general-on-comeys-integrity-jims-loyalty-was-more-to-chuck-schumer/

.......In fact, the current episode is not the first time Comey and his associates plotted to oust a sitting Republican official through highly orchestrated political theater and carefully crafted narratives in which Comey is the courageous hero bravely fighting to preserve the rule of law. To understand how Comey came to be FBI director in the first place, and how he operates in the political arena, it is important to review the last scandal in which Comey had a front-row seat: the 2007 U.S. attorney firings and the fight over the 2004 reauthorization of Stellar Wind, a mass National Security Agency (NSA) surveillance program designed to mitigate terrorist threats in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

The pivotal scene in the Comey-crafted narrative, a drama that made Comey famous and likely paved the road to his 2013 appointment by President Barack Obama to run the FBI, occurred in a Beltway hospital room in early 2004. In Comey’s view, Comey was the last honest man in Washington, the only person standing between a White House that rejected any restraints on its power, and the rule of law protecting Americans from illegal mass surveillance.

A former White House counsel and attorney general with extensive first-hand experience dealing with Comey, however, paints a very different picture of what happened in that hospital room, and disputes numerous key details. In this account, Comey’s actions showcase a duplicitous, secretive schemer whose true loyalties were not to the officials to whom he reported, but to partisan Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). To fully understand and appreciate Jim Comey’s approach to politics, the writings and testimony of Alberto Gonzales, who served as both White House counsel and attorney general during the events in question and is intimately aware of Comey’s history of political maneuvering, is absolutely essential.

Gonzales’s descriptions of his interactions with Comey, included in his 2016 book “True Faith And Allegiance,” are detailed and extensive. While his tone is measured, the language he uses to describe Comey’s actions in 2004 and 2007 leaves little doubt about the former top Bush official’s views on Comey’s character. Gonzales’s opinion is clearly colored by the fact that Comey cravenly used him to jumpstart his own political career by going public with surprise (and questionable) testimony that Gonzales had attempted to take advantage of a deathly ill man in order to ram through authorization of an illegal surveillance program.

Bush’s Attorney General John Ashcroft had taken ill and was in the hospital at a pivotal time. The legal authorization of a surveillance program meant to find and root out terrorist threats was days from expiring. What happened in Ashcroft’s hospital room in March of 2004 later became political fodder for a hearing in which Senate Democrats used Comey to dredge up the 2004 hospital meeting to tar Gonzales’ credibility and suggest he was unfit to continue serving as attorney general. As the 2004 and 2007 sagas show, Comey is clearly no stranger to using the unarguably legal dismissal of government employees as the backdrop for casting himself as the story’s protaganist standing up to the forces of corruption.

told my security detail that I needed to get to George Washington Hospital immediately. They turned on the emergency equipment and drove very quickly to the hospital,” Comey testified. “I got out of the car and ran up — literally ran up the stairs with my security detail.”

“I was concerned that, given how ill I knew the attorney general was, that there might be an effort to ask him to overrule me when he was in no condition to do that,” Comey said.

Comey’s use of the phrase “overrule me” is especially noteworthy, given that the authority he referenced belongs not to the deputy attorney general, but to the attorney general himself. However, unbeknownst to anyone at the White House on that day, Comey had assumed for himself the authorities attendant to Ashcroft’s position. Rather than personally informing anyone at the White House, including the president, the vice president, the White House chief of staff, or the White House counsel, the Department of Justice sent a mere fax to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue noting the change in power. For some reason, the newly designated acting attorney general didn’t feel compelled to personally inform any of his superiors that he was now a cabinet official..............

love the term "assault rifle' ANY rifle is an assault rifle if ur shooting someone with it and their body armor is made to stop handgun rounds so ANY bullet from a rifle is armor piercing...a heavy grain pistol round will even go thru that armor...if they were using actual armor piercing rounds from a " high powered" rifle they'd go thru the van...u can buy a ar-15 almost anywhere and 62 grain green tip rounds can be bought at Walmart for crying out loud...these things are accessible to anyone who can pass a background check or is a legal citizen and I'm sure they could be obtained illegally...its Chicago those gangs were going to upgrade their weapons at some point or another...so what...the guns didn't wander out by themselves and start shooting cops...quit demonizing guns and go fix the problem...

now you are cooking with gas!

The Democratic Party has morphed into the Communist Party/Socialist Party as evidenced by endorsing the Democratic Candidates for President
By Bob Cushman

The Democratic Party has morphed into the Communist Party/Socialist Party. When I was young, the Communist Party and/or the Socialist Party usually had a candidate for President every four years. The last time that happened was 1984. Beginning in 1988, the Communist Party has supported every single person running for President representing the Democratic Party. Why do you think that is? Notice the rhetoric of making "the world a better place", as opposed to making the United States of America a stronger, more secure land of the free. If you take the time to compare the 1960 Communist Party Platform to the current Democratic Platform of today, you will find an amazing degree of similarity. They have invented the terms Globalism and Populism which is simply "code" for Communism and Patriotism. They use emotional appeals to "income inequality" as a cover to the Communist's/Socialist’s desire to redistribute wealth. They use the subject of immigration in such a way as to ignore the nearly one million good and "legal” immigrants that we gladly accept every year. Their elected "leaders" have blatantly provided cover for the bad "illegal" immigrants that were allowed to illegally flow across the border and provided illegal sanctuary cities that protected criminals that have hurt and murdered Americans. Their fiscal policies have doubled the national debt under potus number 44. The first 43 presidents accumulated 10 trillion dollars of debt. Obama single handedly doubled that in ONE SINGLE Presidency to 20 trillion dollars! Every single person working today now owes 160,000 dollars as their portion of the national debt. What this means is that we have indebted our children and grandchildren for our out of control spending. This is patently immoral by anyone’s standards!
If you take the time to see the false narrative and the appeal to emotion at the expense of facts, you should be able to understand the true motives behind their actions. It has nothing to do with “kindness” and everything to do with obtaining and controlling power.
The simple truth is that if you vote on the Democratic Party side of the ballot, you are an enemy to the Principles upon which our great Country was founded.
Bob Cushman – Feb 24, 2017
” Norman Matoon Thomas - Nov 20, 1884 – Dec 19, 1968
Six time Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party of America. From a 1944 speech:
“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But, under the name of ‘Liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”
He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform.”

That's about what it boils down to!

I can not seem to let this go ...
I believe how ... we need to get this changed ...
there really is so much fraud & corruption in our voting system ...
this is nothing new ... but it seems more severe now ...
I never new how they where able to corrupt our government...
as bad as I know now ... I have a real hard time...
feeling my vote or any others votes count ... and worth voting
again in my life time in the President elections ... this is not about the sitting president...
Trump ... just how some have learned ...
from the past even is corrupt...

is there any ideas how to get this back to good ...
and I am not the only one to want this ...I am sure ...
or I am the first to say this ...

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/20/opinion/get-rid-of-the-electoral-college.html?_r=0

Have any ideas ... where to start ...to change it ...

WHY?
