I do not think you can really compare the border towns to the rest of the country of Mexico. Ever been to Detroit, E St Louis, or DC??

Something should be done to correct the immigration system in the states granted, however the laws have been too lax in the past, thus allowing everything to get out of hand. Being a US citizen living in Mexico, I know firsthand that it is almost impossible to find work here, because if you do find a job, it must be a job that cannot be done by a Mexican citizen. And that law is strictly enforced by the Mexican Gov't.

Perhaps if the US Gov't would have been stricter to begin with, many years ago, or allowed more visas to be issued thus having a paper trail to follow individuals, then things would have been different. Now, it is a real cluster %$#* and it will take forever to change things.

I wonder - what would happen to the US economy if the "illegals" stopped working for 2 weeks. You think everything is high now - you would see things skyrocket due to that 2 week stoppage. Oh, and as for the taxes? Many thousands have taxes taken out of the weekly checks, it just doesn't make it to the IRS..

I am on a (tight) budget also...........that is why I was wondering.........
