I can only eat sausage biscuits if they have ketchup on them.

The mystery has been solved..... owls. Very large owls.

Good thing, flying monkeys are like cockroaches, you see one you probably have hundreds.

lol, those damn flying monkeys I guess I got lucky. I was beginning to wonder though. They seemed much larger when I was scared of them.

wow...is there anything you can do to keep them away?

I mean other than having PETA get on your a$$...

that would get old real fast....

I don't know how to get rid of them. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't sit in one particular tree right by my bedroom. They are also keeping my dog agitated at night he barks at them incessantly.

I know what whipoorwills sound like and ruled that out right away.

At 5am this morning I finally got a good view of these things and found out they were owls. They are getting braver staying later and coming out earlier. The sound they are making is a Pair Calling. You can hear them here http://www.owlpages.com/owls.php?genus=Tyto&species=alba .

They make this screeching sound all night, every night.

Oh i've yelled at them and my dog has barked his head off. They stay in the trees where I can't see them I can only hear there calls that let me know they are there. I've seen them on the ground only once and in flight 3 times. I looked around today to see if I could find some kind of nest or roost... I had my binoculars out and still couldn't see any signs. I think they are probably coming down from the mountains at night to hunt.

The birds/creatures are back again tonight... I didn't get a chance to call the extension office today.

After staying up all night listening to bird calls trying to figure out on my own what it could be I have concluded that these are some strange prehistoric breed released from the Center of the Earth by mining on the mountain above my house. lol

Not a condor or a hawk i've looked them both up.

If I had a gun I would be out there shooting just to scare those things away. I am so paranoid that I think I keep hearing them landing on my roof. My Mother suggested that it may be something feasting on the HUGE amount of fire flys that are living out in the trees behind my house. I have never seen so many fire flys in all my life.

p.s. If it does, yer' gonna need a scarecrow!

That is definetly not it... and if it was I would say these are some sort of record breaking mega monster crows!

Yeah I thought of a pelican but it wasn't right either i've seen tons of pelicans at the beach but it was nothing like this. The stature of this bird reminded me very much of an eagle or a buzzard but it just doesn't sound right.

The sound is like a whistle that sounds very shrill and then gets deeper. It's almost like an eagle call but not exactly maybe a bit longer and shriller. I tried to record but it didn't pick up.

I've never seen a raven or a crow that was almost 3foot tall.

Definetly not a crane these don't sound or look like cranes.

I only saw the silhouette in the dark of this bird flying 3 times and on the ground once. It did not have long legs .

I'm looking through the list my dog is going crazy over the sounds. lol

I thought about cranes to as i've seen them in the river behind the house in the past but the bird I saw tonight did not have the typical long legs you see in a crane.

I checked out turkey vulture calls and the sounds are different.

I just recorded the birds outside with my cheapo camera so im about to see what I was able to get i'll post a link to the vid if it comes out.

Sounds like vultures... There's probably a dead something in your area attracting them... They're the only birds that size that are active at night.

I thought of that too there is a cow pasture right across the river from my backyard. The call doesn't sound like a vulture or a buzzard. I'm going to try to make a recording of the sound they are making. I wonder why I would only hear or see them at night though. Don't they come out during the day? I know I sometimes see buzzards on the sides of the road near my house during the day.

I'm in the mountains here I tried looking up night birds and listened to all sorts of calls but nothing sounds like these birds or is as big. I'll definetly be calling someone tommorow. I don't want my little mini doxie to get carried off by some jersey devil bird or something.

My back yard is being taken over by some sort of HUGE night birds. Every night they keep me up calling to each other. I went out on my back deck earlier and saw 3 seperate birds swooping from tree to tree. One landed in my yard and appeared to be atleast 2.5 feet tall. I never see or hear them during the day. At first I thought they were owls but i've never heard an owl make the sound these birds do. My porch light isn't bright enough for me to get a good look at them and I don't own a strong enough flash light. What could these things be. I'm afraid to walk my dog out there when he needs to go at night. I am so scared I had to walk out to my pool to turn on the pump w/an umbrella over my head tonight. As if an umbrella would protect me from such huge birds.

What are these things?!? Any wild life types out there have an idea?
