Just for your FYI.
Anyone in the State of Florida is allowed to place a firearm in their glove compartment or center console without a permit. The weapon can be loaded with one in the chamber. Persons completing a Firearms Safety Course, with said proof of training then can submit an application for a FL Concealed Weapons Permit that will allow them to carry it on their body. So long as it is not worn in certain areas; i.e. places that deliberately state no firearms allowed, municipal/state buildings like schools, courts, post office, military bases/posts and establishments that serve primarily alcohol. (See FL SS. 790.01 & 790.06) The "castle doctrine" does extend to mean the firearm owners home and vehicle. In Florida, one does not have to retreat if they don't choose to. This does not give anyone the right to actually discharge the firearm. Nor does it actually give anyone the right to discharge it against anyone else. It must be determined that deadly force was justified to save themselves or others that would have suffered injury or death. That must be investigated by the Law Enforcement body that has jurisdiction in the area of occurence. It is the individual business' right to discriminate against firearms. Disney has done this and most of the theme parks. Any business may dictate whether or not they wish to allow firearms on or within their property. With that in mind, and given that statistically in the past 30 years since the law was passed regarding the Concealed Weapons Permit, the rate of forcible felonies have dropped in Florida while the death rate has gone upwards. This would behoove me to believe that the good guys are shooting back and it has become a major deterrent against criminals. They don't know who is armed or not and it gives them second thought before they attack. Criminals will employ firearms regardless if they have a license or not, obtained legally or not. I have no problems with folks with firearms. Law abiding people don't normally employ a firearms against another without a damned good reason. |
