I think the only thing you can do right now is hope for the best but there will come a time in ALL of our lives when we all have to face the inevitable.

The best we can do is leave the stage when it is time with dignity and grace. Your grandfather probably is as stubborn and as tough as a mule but the fact is and for as sad as this is may be on his way out. At this point I would say the best thing is to visit him and let him know he is loved by family and will never be forgotten by the ones closest to him. Some of us had our families fall completely apart and when my grandparents died I never got to say good buy. That will tear at me the rest of my life but life goes on with us and without us.

Finding strength to face this is very very hard. Hopefully you can find a way to make peace with the issue and cope with the pain I know this is causing.
