Drop Stop
|
|
There’s a little place I like to stop
to stretch my legs and do other things, like lettin' my worries drop. Its door slants off to the right And the rest of it Kinda’ leans to the left; but after hours in the saddle, it’s sure a welcome sight. There’s a hitchin’ post just outside for me to park my horse. I enter in and sit a spell and contemplate many things. Now, cowboys learn the hard way; it’s just the way things are and many horse has ran off once your pants are past your knees. So tie the reins securely, don’t be in too much of a hurry 'cuz leavin’ before you’re finished can be such an awful thing. Another thing to consider before sittin' on the throne, take a stick and poke around to be sure you’re in there alone. ‘Cuz squirrels up here have got a lot of guts and in their simple little minds (well to put it bluntly), nuts are simply nuts! |

As the tumbleweeds drift
across the desert sand And the golden sun Is sinkin’ on a man, Lonesome dusty trails and cool water pools he does recall. In his mind, he hears country songs of bygone days. Times that made him glad and days that made him sad; Horses that were good and women that were bad. Across the canyons of his mind, He traces the tracks he’s left behind where shadows of the past touch his very soul. Memories lost and found sketched in lines on his weathered face. Where the old way of life took root and grew, he walks those old trails refectin’ on better times. He’s just an ol’ cowboy that has ridden many a broken mile; But through it all, He gives tribute to his way of life that the Lord has graced leaving a gleam in his eyes - provin’ he’s found some joy and peace in his western way of life. |

The Poor Box

A married Irishman went into the confessional and said to his priest, 'I almost had an affair with another woman..'
The priest said, 'What do you mean, almost?' The Irishman said, 'Well, we got undressed and rubbed together, but then I stopped.' The priest said, 'Rubbing together is the same as putting it in. You're not to see that woman again. For your penance, say five Hail Mary's and put $50 in the poor box.' The Irishman left the confessional, said his prayers, and then walked over to the poor box. He paused for a moment rub the money on the box and then started to leave. The priest, who was watching, quickly ran over to him saying, 'I saw that. You didn't put any money in the poor box!' The Irishman replied, 'Yeah, but I rubbed the $50 on the box, and according to you, that's the same as putting it in!' |

Cowboy Sense

When the final rays of light
slip behind the moutains and the land's alive with the distant lonesome coyote howls and cattle lowin', the cowboy sits awhile by the campfire cookin’ his beans. The smell of burning mesquite, coffee, an biscuits fill the air and the stars are the only light for miles. There's nothin’ more that can compare. The morning brings another day with saddle sores and blazin’ sun, the cowboy rides the open range from dawn till dusk when work is done. A man from the West living by his wits, wrestlin’ steers, and mendin' fence for nothin’ more than pure accomplishment and short pay. Working in the desert winds and the dust has worn him pretty thin. He continues to do it With a grin. His eyes are growing dimmer. The pleasures left are fewer. Like faded jeans and worn boots, his life's become a paler shade of blue. But, through it all, he gives the Lord praise; ever thankful for his cowboy ways. |
