I dabble on guitar (and on piano, and I sing).

It depends what you call "indie." Sure, I enjoy those and bands like Ambulance LTD, the Black Angels, the Black Keys, Midlake, Neutral Milk Hotel, St. Vincent... I'm quite into the whole garage rock revival, shoegaze, psychedelia, folk type music.

Yeah, I agree Zeppelin is a major factor, but there are others. Take Cream or the Jeff Beck Group. What do those three bands have in common? The Yardbirds, of course. The guitarists went their different ways and produced their own major musical influences. Note: John Paul Jones even sessioned with the Yardbirds.
Anyway, another band I just thought of to add to my list besides Cream, etc.: Blue Cheer |

Heavy? Hmm. Early "heavy" stuff: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, Mountain, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult... you get the idea.

Damnnnnnnnnn, good song & a damnnnnnnnnnn good album.
I am very very impressed with your music taste and knowledge. Yes, gotta love Disraeli Gears. "Take it Back" is one of my favorites on there - so incredibly fun to sing along with in Jack Bruce's blusey vocal style! Heh, thanks, I get that a lot. Man, Clapton & Winwood's tour will be here in one week! "Spirit in the Sky" - Norman Greenbaum to "Mother Nature's Son" - The Beatles - The Beatles to "I Talk to the Wind" - In the Court of the Crimson King (an Observation by King Crimson) - King Crimson all while responding. |

Thanks!
Lead Belly - "Goodnight, Irene" Edit: I just realized I put a Bluesman and not a rock band. Oops. I can fix that to go with the next answer: Led Zeppelin - "Gallows Pole" And yes, big Blues fan. |
