it's a serious issue that is irreversible but as long as we are running
the country off of fossil fuels we can't even begin to address it. the
problem is increasing rapidly as we continue to use oil and now it is to
a point where there are dangerous gasses trapped under ice that is
released into the atmosphere when it melts that also accelerates the
effects on the ozone. it's just something that people will have to live
with because it won't go away.

it doesn't matter if we use fossil fuels or not, it's gonna happen.
Fossil fuels are believed to speed the process up but that's it. It's
been discovered that it's a cycle the earth goes through. It happen
before and it's happening again but it will repair itself with an
iceage. Every watch the movie The Day After Tomorrow? It is actually
pretty factual except they dramatized it of course for the big screen, I
don't believe we will have the storms of that magnitude bringing that
cold air so quickly and it won't be so cold as to freeze you instantly
lol Do some research on it maybe you'll see what I am talking about, I
watch alot of discovery channel and history channel it's quite
interesting and very informative.

somethings going on ! its very warm here in michigan and we havent had
any snow at all.

4fun06 is exactly right there! I live in Michigan as well and was just
discussing with a few friends last night how warm it is and about how
they want to ice fishing but it doesn't seem like the lakes are ever
gonna freeze!! They haven't even begun to freeze!! My little sister was
telling me that she heard on the news that January is suppose to be
above normal as well. But I was told all of this has something to do
with some sort of tsunami?????? Who knows, I don't pay as much attention
to things since I work 3rd shift. But it is a REALLY weird winter
though.

I just watchd The Inconvenient Truth with Al Gore. It is an education
movie about the problem. Al Gore has been trying to communicate on this
issue for a many years.

The problem *is* reversable. There are things each of us can do to
help the problem. If we don't we'll have major climate issues that
could have devastating problems.

there's nothing can be done but time, it's happened before they have
done soil samples around the coastlines that tell about the climate
over hundreds even thousands of years it's happened before ozone
depleting substances were ever used by humans hell nature has it's own
subsatanxces such as forest fires and volcanoes among the things
contributing through history. We can only slow it down that's all. You
all will see.

of course as with anything you have skeptics and non believers, such is
life. Science has been accurate before and I'm sure they will again.

Well it could just be a cycle of the earth. I mean there was an Ice age
was there not? So, what warmed up the earth out of the ice age. I don't
think it was cave men cruiseing in their cars. Also if you take all the
crap that are cars spit into the air, it is only like 1/100th of the
**** that volcanos have done over millions of years. We have only been
recording the weather for like 200 years.

Good points, Van. They have advised us for years of the dangers or
aerosols, waste and toxins.....that is why recycling is encouraged.

It sure dosent feel any warmer in Oregon right now! BURRRRRRRRR!

I think it's a biggg problem for Americans to realize that we're a large
part of the problem.
Big companies buy the small car companies that try to sell better
efficiency electric cars so that the oil industry doesn't die out.. what
kind of sense does that make besides for their pockets?
It's sooo stupid.

And by the way, fossil fuels aren't the only things that speed up the
process, it's also greenhouse gases such as chlorofluorocarbons, etc.

It's getting warmer on Mars too (fact). Is that our fault too?
I'll listen to Al Gore when he moves out of his 8,000 sq. ft. mansion
and stops travelling on private jets everywhere.

While I'm sure the earth's population's dependance on fossil fuels has
something to do with this I would like to point out two things:

1) I believe that the reports say that in the past 100 years the
earth's average tempeture has gone 2 degrees. This is two degrees not
10, not 20, not even 5, 2. Maybe a bit wild over a natural cycle in the
environment.

2) The earth's population has exploded from 1.65 billion people
in 1900 to 6.45 billion people in 2005 (those figures are from wikipedia
which i realize might not be the most accurate but we'll use it here).
That population increase as well as the expected increase use of well...
everything could explain it.

Do I think global warming is a load of bull? Not entirely, but I
don't think it's as bad as some would have us believe. Those
individuals would blame every every natural disaster in recent memory on
it; ask them about Pompei or what happened to Port Royal, Jamacia and
they give you an answer something akin to "**** happens..." In any case
I hope everyone will begin to recycle, pay more attention to their
utilities/ energy loss, and purchase/lease automobiles that get better
gas mileage. No matter if it's for economic reasons (why I do it) or
environmental it will benefit you.

I dont buy it.

The total sum of all the hydrocarbon emissions from the coal-burning
days of the Industrial Revolution, up through 2007, do not even come
close to the volume C02 gases & particulates released from one good
sized volcano. Granted, we havn't had a spectacular volcanic eruption in
the 20th century, but Krakatoa in the late 1800s was exceptional. Its
effects were global, and measurable.

Is there measurable environmental damage caused by our pollution? Sure.
Absoultely. Is it making an effect on the global temperature -
maybe...maybe slightly... but, its nowhere near the effect that the next
major volcanic eruption will have.

Besides, what will the net effect be? More legislation, more fees,
permits, regulations, fines, and fatter govt agencies to enforce all
this. Net result? No environmental effect that you can measure, but,
surely you'll pay for it.
