in the frayed distance
bluebirds not really blue
hummingbirds not really humming
I stand upside down
so I can feel flushed
I crawl into crawlspaces
so I can feel held

I can make you feel like you want to feel
but my eyes are always closed
it's as if the window
to who you are
is shut

I beat my own heart
I keep going
I dream my own dreams
sometimes of you

can I dance
when I lead you
into your soul
can the soul make love
I would guess it would be
the journey's prize

I don't think I can
I can take almost anything
I lost my fear of anything
else
a lifetime ago
but to you
who I want forever
I 'll probably
never tell you
so sad but true
I can write of love
but to speak that word
to let you know
eludes me
