You got to cut loose

don't hold it all in
just go with the flow
every platitude
ever given to me
received
with such
gratitude
but where is
the peace
the serenity
you promised
to me?

Can't carry
that weight
though it may be
innate
to my nature
my soul and
my spirit
yeah
I know
I protest and
you don't want
to hear it
or see it
or feel it
cause I know
you fear it
I can't say
I blame you ...
I don't want
to be near it
either ...

So I listen
to words
I've heard
forever
it seems
try to live
by your standards
try to uphold
your dreams
I'm trying
I swear it
This loving shroud
yeah, I'll wear it
and you may see
my manufactured
and hard earned
serenity
but will
you ever again see
me swim deep
in the seas
of tranquility
when I sail
in an ocean
of hypocrisy?
