Topic: Veteran Removes The American Flag | |
---|---|
It is not the flag people die for. It is not the flag that shows the world what we are and who we are and what we do, it is us. We are America. "We the People" are this country and no flag can make that or break that. It is just a symbol. see, i agree with you. i really do. but when someone hangs another flag over our own and/or holds a view that their country is bette rthan ours, that's when we should all care. Lindyy says: From "Our Flag The Story of Old Glory": To "strike the flag" is to lower it altogether as a sign of surrender or submission." To me, placing the US flag below any other flag is a sign of surrender. We must NEVER, EVER, do this! Lindyy |

To me it equated a blatant challenge!! One that was met!!! |

What does that signify so pride inspiring? All flags should be hung together signifying solidarity, we should not be divisive but being conducive to togetherness. no flag is supose to be flone over the other they are supose to be flone at the same hight. |

We need to meet all these challenges, or
the next thing you'll hear is someone raising a Mexican Flag over the Alamo!! |

As ususal, some people do not READ and takes everything out of context. The US flag was placed UNDER the mexican flag. NOW, if you apply 'strike the flag' to this incident, to me the mexican business owner very deceivingly was signifying that the US has to surrender to the mexican businessman's demands. That is how the HELL............. Lindyy PTL |

You are wrong. I stand corrected! You are right. From Wiki: When flown with flags of states, communities, or societies on separate flag poles which are of the same height and in a straight line, the flag of the United States is always placed in the position of honor - to its own right. ..The other flags may be smaller but none may be larger. ..No other flag ever should be placed above it. ..The flag of the United States is always the first flag raised and the last to be lowered. When flown with the national banner of other countries, each flag must be displayed from a separate pole of the same height. Each flag should be the same size. They should be raised and lowered simultaneously. The flag of one nation may not be displayed above that of another nation. |

You are wrong. 11. When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace. The order of precedence for flags generally is National flags (US first, then others in alphabetical order in English), State (host state first, then others in the order of admission) and territories (Washington DC, Puerto Rico, etc.), Military (in order of establishment: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard), then other. http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html#1 |

Key words;
IN TIME OF PEACE!! |

You're right Dragoness, the flag is symbolism. However this symbolism is something that Americans hold dear to their heart. When someone down plays that symbolism most Americans get rightfully concerned.

Key words; IN TIME OF PEACE!! I found this on the link you posted. Interesting. The Flag Code [see below] requires that the US flag be flown on federal institutions, including public schools. It does not require you to fly the US flag and it does not forbid you from displaying a foreign flag. For example, someone with Irish heritage may proudly fly an Irish flag and is not required to fly the US flag. In the early 1900s there was hostility when the German flag was flown in the US, prompting Theodore Roosevelt to state that we had one flag, and one language. We are again revisiting tensions, this time it is the Mexican flag. We understand the emotional tensions of the situation, however, the Flag Code [see below] does not support those who wish to forbid the flying of the Mexican flag within our borders without also flying the US flag. |

hell, they can fly their own flag all they want. And they should it's their heritage. Just don't fly it above ours. It's just like those illegal immigrant rallies they have from time to time where the mexicans fly their flags instead of the u.s. flags. THAT says to me that they remain true to mexico but just wanna live in the U.S. Come on guys, if you want to be an American then be an American, if you wanna be Mexican then be Mexican (or whatever country you belong to) just dont come to our country to abuse our system.

This is a video clip showing the veteran who went down to a Mexican restaurant in Reno , NV to take down the American flag that was being flown under their Mexican flag. This guy silenced the folks on the sidewalk and makes me proud to be an American. I think it's going to take a lot more of this kind of revolting to change things...watch and be proud. http://www.youtube.com/v/UQ6cCPbA8jo The Mexican flag shouldn't even be there. It belongs in Mexico. Vietnam era veteran, also served in Korea, son of WW1 & WW2 vet, gggrandson & gggrandson of Civil War vets and relative of a 13 year old War of Independence (1776) vet. BTW the U.S. won the Mexican War of 1848. |

I (again) said I found it interesting that someone can fly the flag of another country and that it is not bad etiquette if flown alone. I have seen Mexican, Swedish, and Swiss flags flown here alone and I felt that it was improper but I stand corrected. |
