Old sayings from old sage.
Heard all of these for as long as I can remember. Alot of them came from WWII. Dad business employed many vets, never forgot 3 guys had the arm tat's from the concentration camps. Some of the things they talked about when drinking, aged me fast. Was a different world 50-60's. |

well england had quite a big earthquake last nite was felt over most of the isle, from what i gather, damage to property and lots woken up at 1 in the morning apart from me and my son who snored all the way threw it lol..not had one like that for 25 years or so Glad you're ok Debbie ![]() I've experienced two earthquakes and since they're both funny stories, I thought I'd share them here. The 1st was about 12 years ago in Seattle Wa. I was standing in the kitchen and my daughter was in the dining room when I noticed that the refridgerator was shaking strangely which caused me to wonder "what the heck's wrong with this fridge? it's brand new...what is wrong with it???" As I was contemplating the cause of the apparent malfunction, I noticed in my peripheal vision that the cabinet doors were also shaking themselves open, just as I was putting two and two together my daughter shouted " DAD !!! IT'S AN EARTHQUAKE!!! GET OUT!!!", So we both got out and other people up & down the street were also coming out of their houses & apts. No one was hurt, but there was some significant property damage. The 2nd time I was alone & traveling through Alaska. I was driving on my way from Anchorage going up to Fairbanks, taking the eastern route up through Denali. I'd been driving all day and was almost to Fairbanks, about 60 miles to go. Since it was still in the middle of the night (about 3am) I decided to pull over and rest until dawn & then drive on in. I found a rest stop that had been recently snow plowed so I pulled in and took a break. The Northern lights were putting on a glorious show for what it seem like me alone since I was all alone with no other traffic or anyone at the rest stop. After it died down I locked myself in the cab of my truck and stretched out in my goosedown to nap for a few hours. Just as I was drifting off to sleep, I felt the truck bouncing up & down & thought "What the heck ???" so I sat up to look, didn't see anything ahead but in my side view mirrors I could see snow falling off the trees and so then I had the very frieghtening thought of " someone's messing with me!!!" "someone was jumping on my rear bumper & then running off into the woods!!!" So , of course my heart was beating fast as I started the truck & hit the highway to get the heck out'a there fast... As I began to settle down I turned on the radio just in time to hear reports that a rather large earthquake had just happened with the epicenter being right outside of Perry Alaska (where I'd just been). I had to laugh at myself then and I may be one of , or maybe the ONLY person to ever think " THANK GOD...whew...it was just an earthquake" lol ![]() ![]() |
