So I have been in negotiations with one of the largest retailers in the country about a section of work in their new stores. I was striving for a section of work that would have basically amounted to tying up 15 of my guys per store for 2-3 days in one week. They sorta flipped the tables on me today, and are trying to expand my responsibilites to a level that would tie up 50 guys per store for 2 weeks! We are talking 3-5 stores a week for a 3 year contract. The money is staggering, but what is most concerning me is the level of dedication it would take from me for the next three years, and the amount of growth that would be needed to successfully achieve this. I seriously wanted to retire in two years or less, but it is a tempting offer. I just worry whether I am setting myself up for a huge failure with the type of numbers that are involved. Before I get ragged for posting business on a dating site, yadda, yadda, I am just looking for opinions. I don't NEED the money, but who doesn't WANT more money?

contract is for three years. There is no way I can think of that I could skate early, by reading their contract. If I did, I am sure their legal team could drive me into bankruptcy, they are too huge, and get everything they want pretty much, lol

I don't fail at business, just my personal life, lol. I can pull the labor I think, but I am tired. I am ready to do what I want to do for a change, and this will be a draining endeavor I fear. I was just looking for people to tell me that the drain is not worth the money I guess. Pulling for support I think.

Three year contract, hours upon hours of attentiveness on your part; organizing, delegating, managing...that it a pretty tough pull on your part. If you are up for the challange and you want to put yourself in that position of no life outside of work....if it's money you want, then it's money you shall receive.

I was trying to wind down, but man are these people pushy, lol. leave it to womens ablity to break things down to the lowest common denominator

Rob having just met you recently in the forums I can tell that you like challange .. if you are up for the challange then go for it .. it is funny how a distraction or too much time on our hands can make us down on ourselves .. I say if you want it GO 4 it ..

Another option you might think about is....Can you sell the contract or your company in a year or so and then you have the best of both....if you like it, you keep it, if not, you sell and retire with even more $.

No malice intended Rob. It is ultimately your choice. I remember your post over the weekend that you were not motivate to move from your motel room because you were actually enjoying a few moments of R&R. Burn out can be physically harmful on one's body. Just think about your self.

Heck I am a workaholic too, long hours, bringing work home with me nightly and working through the weekends...but I do take a day for myself then and again.

Rob,
Out of the goodness of my heart, I would consider trying to ease your tiredness and frustration..LOL!! You are a cutie pie! Retirement is not all it is cracked up to be, either. Waking up every day and feeling like you have no purpose can really get you down. Somehow, there has to be a middle ground where you are challenged and needed and also have time to enjoy life.

Thanks guys/gals for the comments, and advice bigsmile . I will never consider myself wealthy till I find the person to share my life with that is for sure. Money means little to nothing in the larger scheme of things, and some of the wealthiest people I have met are financially poor, as some of the finacially well are morally corrupt. I would never sell a contract out. Once I make a commitment, it is to be fulfilled whether it is inked, or just a handshake deal. My word is all I have. I think i am going to press them to keep it to the original scale, if they refuse I think I will jsut walk away. A challenge is one thing, but this is another. BTW, I will not sit idle in retirement, I plan on travelling my style this time around, and actually seeing the places I am going. I may also pursue some politics if the mood strikes me. One thing is certain though, I am not going to be idle watching my skin graft to the couch material

Just pray that your health stays good and you can do all the things you dream of. Some of us are forced into early retirement due to health problems and botched surgeries and don't have the financial means to travel the world. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best and pray for your good health and happy future!

Hey Rob, another thought... is it just YOUR business or do you have partners?

If no partners could you get a team of managers/supervisors to run the operations for you?

Your slice of the pie would be trimmed down of course but 10% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Or are you the driven control type who has difficulty letting anyone else take the wheel?

You're young yet and there's plenty of time for travel and retirement still ahead of you.
