My sister and I will be vacationing next year, and want to go on a cruise. We have been to the Caribbean in the past, but want to go to an island that we have never been to. We hope to go on a 7-9 night cruise.
Has anyone been on an island that they had a wonderful time? We are thinking about Aruba?? Your thoughts would be appreciated. |

I love, love, love Grand Cayman! I've done two cruises to the western Caribbean and have been to Jamaica (never again), Grand Cayman, Belize, Hispaniola, and Cozumel. I love, love, love Cozumel too.

I've been there to dive... It's very touristy, of course, but it has a pretty good night life...

If you like shopping, high class shopping you'd like Grand Cayman, if you like dirty historic places that have been re-done to look like they are historic places you'd like Cozomel, or Jamaica, If you like a bit of both along with some local flair I would recomend Nassua Bahamas, not Grand Bahama island that is really touristy just like Jamaica.
Grand Cayman is about the best when it comes to keeping the fast buck tourist traps down, and the 7 mile beach is wonderful and pristine. Nassua is my favorite, it used to be cheaper, but for some reason it is getting more expensive. But it is also fairly clean, not as good as GC but very nice. |

I've been to Grand Cayman, shops were very nice. I didn't get a chance to get to the beach there, just shopping. Nassau had great straw markets, and reasonable places to shop, I haven't been there in a while. I've been to St. Thomas, St. Martin, Nassau, Bahama's, Jamaica, Cozumel (when I got off the ship, they tried to sell me DRUGS). The parts of Jamaica that I was in...the houses...had no doors. It was an experience. |

It's just not an island that I ever care to visit it again, I really didn't have that great of a time, besides people tried to sell my husband and I drugs when we got off the ship. So it was not a big deal to me, that's all |

I was to St Maarten, it was beautiful there. Be careful if you have pale skin color, the sun is VERY hot there. I wound up with a bad burn. I went snorkeling, had a GREAT time, forgot to put on extra sun block when I got out of the water. I was hurting for days afterwards. Tortola is that in the US V.I.? if yes, then I've been there. I've never been to Dominican Republic, I hope that you have a wonderful trip!!!! |

So it was not a big deal to me, that's all I agree with you about Jamaica. I went about 2 years ago and stayed a week in Ocho Rios. The place I stayed at was a Sandles that used to be two seperate hotels across the street from each other. They considered it too dangerous for guest to cross the street(a two horse road) so they would drive you across. Then when we visited the towns shopping mall, It was guared by policemen in bullet proof vest carrying rifles. It certainly gave me an uneasy feeling. I had a much better time in Nassau Bahamas. Not in the busy area like on Paridise Island. It was so much nicer on Cable Beach which is about 10 miles from the airport. I can't wait to go back. I'm trying to figure out when I can go. Anyone game? |

I'm not sure where you were in Jamaica but there are some beautiful places and gorgeous homes there. There is even a Beverly Hills there.
