Recently, I bought a new PC and repaired and rebuilt my old one. I gave the old one to my daughter. I set it up as myself the administrator and she is a user. I need help figuring out how to allow her access to certain programs.
For instance, she is unable to load pictures from her camera when she's logged on under her user name, but can do it if logged on under my name. I want her to be able to do so when she logs in under her own name, so I don't have to be bothered. How do I do this?

make her an administrator also

with older machines there really isn't much choice ... you can either grant her full access privilges or not. To the machine, a download is a download weather it's from a website or a camera.

Is it Windows XP? Home or Professional?

That's what I was afraid of. I just didn't want her to be downloading a bunch of stuff to the computer. She always manages to crap out her computers somehow.

Ah. Yeah, you'd probably have to do some really weird stuff to manage the permissions on that. Things that I will not condone.

Log in as the admin(yourself) and go to regedit.

(be careful here...do a backup of the registry if you are not familiar or unsure--- you get to regedit by start run type in regedit)

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE, look for the subkey in which the games/program/whatever it is registry entries are stored.

Right-click and go to Permissions. Look for the USERS group. The limited user account should be under this group. Select that group and go to Advanced below. Now select the USERS group and click on edit. Here you are basically going to add Write DAC and Write Owner permissions to this account. Save and exit.

there are other ways to.. for instance the programe they use for pictures... they can try un-instaling it, and re-install it on the Admin, and when installing it should ask allow all users to use this programe, hit yes!!!

Add her to the "Power Users" group...NOT the "Administrator's" group. She should have no problem accessing the camera then.

Power Users can:

Run legacy applications, in addition to Windows XP Professional certified applications.
Install programs that do not modify operating system files or install system services.
Customize system wide resources including printers, date, time, power options, and other Control Panel resources.
Create and manage local user accounts and groups.
Stop and start system services which are not started by default.
