One of the consistent themes I've seen in the year+ that I've been here, is that some people either don't or can't read profiles.

The best ones, though, are when they DO read it, and then write to you explaining why your standards are wrong, and why you should date them anyway, regardless of the fact that they're the polar opposite of what you have stated you're looking for. There is a level of narcissism that transcends reality....

Precisely! Thank you! And they think this is attractive! I mean confidence is good, but that's going too far!

well I am thinking that there should be some sort of mardi gras smiling -- handing me beads - which I would think would mean show me your ummm breasts.. I joined this crazy thing thinking that men would maybe be forced to take the time to get to know the inside of me .. ha ha ha that decision was made while taking bouts of cough syrup and antibiotics that I am now convinced is the key ingredient in Acid .. that being said welcome to the singles bar of this decade and treat it has such..

i think both men and women do this. most women will however read a profile and look at the photos. most men see a pretty face or body and never get to the profile. maybe they are not looking for what they say they are. i do read to profiles and i do look at photos. because i am looking for someone special, and yes the photos do count as i think there also has to be a physical attraction also. sometimes us guys don't really know how to start a conversation so we may ask something that is already in the profile but that does not always mean we did not read it. i am not here to change anyone or to be changed but i understand what compromise is and i am willing to do that without hesitation. until i find what i am looking for i will remain here, have fun, joke around, flirt and write to anyone no matter what the profile says. flowerforyou flowerforyou

People are weird. We all are, in our way. But the Internet brings out strange things in all of us.
Welcome. flowerforyou

Regarding the issue of reading profiles:

One of the biggest problems I've seen, while looking through Mutual Match candidates, us that 90+% of the profiles simply offer nothing to read. When someone's entire self-summary is "I don't know what to write here" or "I hate filling these things out" or "I'm easy-going" or "Anything you want to know, you'll have to ask," I have absolutely NO incentive to want to know anything about that person.

There was one -- and I am not making this up -- that said "I'm a fun person who likes to have fun." Really makes you feel like you've know her all your life!

As a writer, I attach a certain significance to someone's ability to use words. And that also means something above a third-grade level of spelling and grammar -- which is rare here, in the same way that a platinum-coated baleen whale is rare.

If someone expects their profile to be read they should at least use punctuation & grammar. A profile of 600+ words with no paragraphs or even halfway decent punctuation is just too hard to read through. Add in those that use all caps and it's just a mess to try and read. Especially when it just rambles on and on.

So either that's their best effort (not serious about it) or they have poor grammar skills (not an attractive trait, to me anyway).

You're right, I forgot to mention that it's almost ALWAYS "I'm layed-back and easy going," mentioned together, in a stellar example of something which is redundant without being the least bit informative.

I'm STILL waiting for the antithesis -- "I'm jittery and hyperactive and I like to throw things." I have NEVER seen that in a profile. Probably never will; it's too many words!

Lilith, if EVERYBODY would read your profile, they would get an idea of how it's SUPPOSED to be done....!

I think most anyone familar with the internet can overlook typos and such. Like using two periods after every sentence,,,,LOL. But putting together hundreds of words with no breaks, all caps, and rambling. How many people will read that versus just skip it because it is too hard to follow/read.

And yeah, some evidence of an education in being able to write is a good thing. At least high school level!

Lex:
You really know how to make a yankee girl blush...blushing

I wish the guys on here would pay more attention to the intellectual foreplay that is LexFonteyne.... Gosh, how can Gem stand it??? love

In my profile.... I did admit I was intense and liked to be out of control because I'm used to being in it. laugh Is that close to what you mean? I no longer throw things bigger than breadboxes.. I hurt my back last time with that coffee table... laugh

You know, I had "laid back and easy-going" but then it was so against ever fiber in my being to actually type that out, even if it was in quotes, that I went back and left out the "and easy-going" part... you had already used that one, after all.
Just goes to show you, both of those things, either of those things, they are the SAME thing (LAZY)!! I'm not. After all, even if "you" (insert JSH profile writer or reader here) don't have any questions... I sure as heck do!

Yes kaseynej 28 who just moved to oshkosh bgosh wisconsin, who doesn't know a soul there, who doesn't want to have sex with me because I'm over 40, people do ask me silly questions that the answers are in my profile which proves they didn't look. I don't get as excited about it as you though. I just push the duh lete button.
